Since it seems like all cities have kinda lost population….
I’m going to guess we are still seeing the fallout of wfh and how that is changing people’s living situations. 2022 was the last year where some level of Covid/wfh policies were in flux. I’ll be curious to see trends in the coming years now that policy like that seems to be settled.

Kind of nuts that this article cherry picks two domestic migrators who moved to Manhattan and Spain. Based on prior years domestic out-migration data, most of the population losses are coming from North, West, and South Philly...i.e., the poorer neighborhoods experiencing social and economic issues.

Oh I’m sure there were some love taps. My car is already “citified” enough with various dents and scrapes from street parking. I was trying not to tear off my front bumper because I wouldn’t be able to get away with not getting that repaired.

I live near Parx. There were so many stories about kids being left in the car while adults gambled when my son was in elementary school. He's 22, and we still tell him we're leaving him in the car while we gamble every time we drive by. Just our running joke. It became funnier when he got old enough to say, "No problem, I'll walk."

i never got any allergies in north jersey having grown up there, but i do get irritated in philly. the first year was probably the worst- so i'm guessing it is just your body dealing with new "threats". good luck!

It wasn’t 😅. That is our pre-war population peak, but household size was larger. We now actually have less population than our peak, but more households.

From everything I know about observing who breaks traffic laws, I'm willing to bet the jeep was there first lol.

Never realized that the jeep spare tire actually doubles as a bumper protector.

Census yearly estimates are almost always incorrect. And somehow Philly lost all this population yet citywide rental vacancy is around 5%.

My mother is a recently recently retired librarian; spent most of her career at Parkway Central. She doesn't remember this existing but suggested you reach out to one of the librarians. She also suggested it might be at the Franklin Institute instead of the library.

As someone with a street tree that got absolutely crushed by a neighbors car trees should come with concrete bollards

It is easy only if you are able to think empathetically, something that is becoming a rarity. People pretend and even trick themselves into thinking they are an empath, when in reality they are just kindly manipulating others to gain something. People do nice things more often than not because they want others to have a positive opinion of them instead of actually wanting to make the person happy.

As a parent of a toddler, one of my common intrusive thoughts is a situation like this. My child being alone, locked somewhere, and completely afraid and unable to reach me. The fact that an adult knowingly did this makes me so completely ill.
