If I work over like 10 hours on a shift my mind frays and I just spew train-of-thought like crazy. My coworker is highly amused/concerned when this starts. Definitely reminds me of LSD and how it enhances that intrusive thoughts part of my ADD.

Is this an academic way of saying 'sex, food, and good TV'?

Yes but even paying attention to the world around you will eventually grow stagnant if you’re doing the same things, the same routine. New experiences and variety provide growth.

Emerson changed his views early on and became an abolitionist prior to the break out of the civil war.

What if they did end up in the same direction? "Society" is a phantom. Necessity however remains true for each individual as well as families, communities, entire cultures and species. Perhaps a release from the phantom and subsequent acknowledgement of an objective standard can guide people toward the same place-- morally speaking?

I have zero out of three of these things.

Was he the one that was super racist or the one who had his mom come to the pond to wash his clothes?
I always get Thoreau and Emerson confused.

Your comment takes it for granted that Rand's views are wrong and expects that refuting them should be straightforward, and never offers any attempted refutations of actual positions.
Like, "I hear X but there's an obvious response to it I can think of, Y, and I'm sure people have written books and gotten degrees on Y, so it's been definitively addressed, I'm certain" is borderline fallacious in this day and age. You go check and the learned academics are also writing nothing more than tumblr posts, refering to each other, never actually bothering to refute X, assuming someone else did it.

everyone’s moral compass is tuned to them, when they release themselves from societal values; not everyone’s going to head in the same direction

I think this is a big part of why people have such revelatory experiences on psychedelics, they are capable of broadening your perspective to an extent.

Equally, never consider a fight won until it is actually won, I've seen way too many amateurs get complacent after the first knockdown and it always comes back to bite them in the ass a couple of rounds later

I think this is a good explanation of the different elements that make a happy life - day to day pleasure and meaningful responsibilities, with changing phases of life bringing fresh challenges.

It would perhaps be odd in a philosophy forum restricted to commentary by accredited philosophers. Not odd on a forum open to all.

I agree with this; the basis of mindfulness itself is to bring more into your focus and accept it. Although, in a way, that is more variety relative to the prior level of focus.

To have a richer experience of life you don't necessarily need to seek out variety and new experiences, you just need to pay more attention to the world around you. Most people have a very narrow focus on life, just paying attention to the things that seem important. If you broaden your focus of attention you can have a much richer experience of life.

My ADHD provides me all the Psychological richness I could ever want...it makes it exceptionally hard to get my allotment of eudaimonia though and the hedonia is a mixed bag...

Odd that it has 8 upvotes, in a philosophy forum.
