It warms you twice. Once when you chop it and once when you burn it. Attributed to...most often Thoreau.

Its likely the lack of even patina on your coin. It's 200+ years old, it should have a good brownish even patina over the entire surface. The lack of even patina usually means it was cleaned at some point, but it could have been years ago as it does look like its trying to pick a patina back up. With time, it could 're-patina' but not if it stays in that sealed slab and away from oxygen.

We had a place in the sticks for a few years. We had crappy baseboard heaters but pretty much only used our wood stove for heat. I have a love-hate relationship with chopping and firewood in general! It does feel good to heat your house with wood you chopped.

Boomer here; Dad & his Brothers spent the Great Depression on an off grid farm chopping wood for their Father, a former BC Lumberjack. My Uncle even cut pulp for $ for a time and years later had 18" forearms just like Popeye.

We used 5 cords last year. This year we're doing without oil heat because it's been too damn expensive, so it'll be a few cords more. My back already hurts from the 'exercise'. 😉

There are three stages.
- This is fun.
- Oh my God this is so much work and it's so inefficient we should have central heating like civilised people.
- Zen master.

"Kız" is "girl" in Turkish.
I'd guess some kind of (pre-)Islamic amulet wrapping up the white stuff in the middle. Fertility charm maybe?
