Check out places like Los Alamos and the Jemez mountains. Sits at 7800 ft. Pretty chilly winters. Not as much snowfall as in the past, but still cool.
The Zamboni from the Los Alamos ice rink is actually on display at the hockey hall of fame, fun fact.

Where I work, we can listen to our music in the AM before customers & Hey Ya still comes on my playlist a ridiculous amount of times a month. It keeps me moving at a good pace.

New Mexico has mountains and cold winters. Also the summers are pretty mild. The hot places are the Arizona desert, nevada, etc. most of new mexico is “high desert” meaning it gets cold and it also snows.

As someone who drives across Texas on a regular basis, I assure you I've seen much worse than this on some of those rural backroads.
That doesn't mean it's not fake, but it wouldn't be unusual if it's not.

The problem though is if someone wanted your stuff and didn't want to fight you in your cliff castle for it they could just camp at the staircase until everyone starved or gave up.
