I worked on the rendition in the traditional horizontal Etch A Sketch orientation and my reference photo was rotated 90 degrees which made for a whole lotta neck-craning

I was down south close to the Mexico border. Wild country out there - never seen anything like it.

in theory this would work since it's a plotter. In practice every Etch A Sketch has its own minute mechanical flaws and idiosyncrasies which makes it so that the knobs sometimes lock up and skip at random parts which would make mass automation difficult. On top of that, each Etch A Sketch has varying line weights etc so it's hard to pick units that consistently function exactly the same both mechanically and cosmetically.
People have been able to program some really cool stuff with arduinos but this level of detail would probably take more effort than it's worth for reproducing.

Lucky you. I've been in TX for 20 years and have yet to see one of those.
Of course, I should mention i live in Houston, and squirrels are about the biggest wild beasts we get.

There are other artists who have experimented with adding lights inside an Etch A Sketch with super cool results! It's akin to a Jack-o-lantern. Here's one example using black light paint from my friend /u/etchartist

Figures. Why do it the hard way when you can cheat with movie magic? Well, that just makes what you did more impressive!

sad fact: the version in the movie was a fake transparency attached to the screen :( but Buddy could definitely knock this outta the park in a few moments!

They use wastewater
Edit cause fatfingered send- Nuke plants use massive amounts of water. Hence why they are typically built near rivers. However, obviously, desert areas don't have this luxury. So they use treated wastewater as a water source. That said, there technically is water almost anywhere. The issue with most areas like these, is that water has high mineral and salt content. Then there's also the issue with local landowners, who the power companies would have to cooperate with in order to drill for it. Arizona does have waterlogged areas where water can be found, but as with all drilling, those permits need to be issued by the State and the locals

>Yes you can repay sovereign debt by printing money
No. You literally don't need to repay sovereign debt because you never borrowed any in the first place. We use "debt" simply because economists got lazy and didn't come up with a different word. But it is completely different from your household transactions.
