How to survive the winter as a transplant from the South?

Me and my partner are from Houston, TX — the land of never ending, unbearable, and painful heat/humidity. We’re going to be living in Pittsburgh starting in November and would love any advice and suggestions for acclimating and preparing for the winter when we’re from a region with the polar opposite weather.

We are wary of leaving home but are excited for the opportunity to join your community. We just want to make sure we’re not going into it unprepared.
