I feel the need to spread the word about the Squirrel Hill Bagel Factory because of some things I overheard and saw while waiting for food today. To start, I saw multiple front-end workers crying after interacting with the owner. They seemed stressed from the rush, but he would come over and yell at them if a sandwich was done incorrectly. I heard him cursing at them when this happened, yelling the F-word and telling the workers that they would be the reason his restaurant failed and closed. I don't know about you, but I don't think that is an acceptable pressure to place on your employees. I also learned that many of the workers from the past few days are still learning, as they were extremely kind, apologizing for wait times and mistakes. From the owner, all I heard was how incompetent his employees were. I actually heard him speaking to someone about some people who had just quit, slandering them to customers. I can't believe the owner would speak to customers like that about his employees, and he'd walk away and immediately begin disparaging them for their mistakes or slowness. Which I think is unacceptable as they were explaining to us why these things were happening, and I didn't see anyone there training them or helping in any way. Worst of all as I was about to leave, I heard him yelling at one of his workers, telling her how she should know how to make a sandwich since she was a woman of color. And then he began to laugh. Like it was a joke. She walked out as did multiple customers that overheard this exchange.

I just can't stand by and watch as someone treats his employees like this. It was disgusting to watch, and I know I, at least, will not be going to the Bagel Factory again and supporting a man who treats his employees so deplorably.
