NWS is a much better source for weather. They're more willing to adjust as new data comes in. Forecasting winter storms is incredibly difficult and more about preparedness for a variety of outcomes than nailing down a single specific forecast.

It’s called a Radar Hole

“Snow was probably occurring over the radar at this time, but dry air between the clouds and the ground was causing the snow to evaporate before it hit the ground. Therefore, there was no snow showing up on radar.

This phenomenon is called “virga” and it is very common at the onset of wintry precipitation events.

Eventually, the atmosphere begins to saturate and the “radar hole” will close up as the precipitation gets closer to ground level.”

There's resident parking program with the Pittsburgh parking authority. I park two blocks away from my building. If I need to unload my car, I'm lucky to have an alley behind my building I can use to pull over for a few minutes.

Local news station weather people don't have to be correct in their forecasts, they will still have a job tomorrow no matter how bad they miss the forecast. If you want real forecasts you need to find someone who is an independent weather person who gets paid for their service. Their livelihoods depend on having accurate forecasts and if they are bad at it they won't have customers.

“Time to stop making excuses for these parents. You can’t expect the village to raise your children.”

Why not? Isn’t that what a community is? We can’t expect a change if we do the same thing or nothing right?

I hate all tipping and I can't wait until that trend dies forever.

But that being said I usually go to a restaurant for the food not for the service so I expect the tip should be the same regardless of how it is served to you. I mean a lot of chain places use those touchscreen things to order and pay anyway, according to this thread that means we should reduce the tip accordingly?

Hi, since everyone else's comments are conjecture...

We are in a dry slot. Low pressure systems are often pulling in warm, moist air from the south and cool, dry air from the north as they develop and rotate. Pittsburgh is in a bad spot because often times the mountain ridges to our east will help facilitate pockets of air that is either too dry or too warm for snow.

I can't attach a picture, so here's a link with a nice illustration of a dry slot

Hahaha, that's a really strange, absolutist statement. People make those decisions all the time without even realizing it. Painting them all as bad parents is really ignorant.

And, all else being equal, why does it matter if that's a factor? Do you assume that women are less qualified or that they'd choose a doctor who wasn't qualified just because of their gender? Also, you think the mother should be uncomfortable whenever she takes the child to the appointments? Why wouldn't parental comfort with a physician be a factor in choosing?

Agree with most of this, except being exposed makes you mad. As someone who grew up beyond poor, it was more of a motivation.

We all know what the issue is. It’s guidance, acceptance and love. And we all know that we personally can help make a positive impact, yet it’s easier to do this online.

Complaining about it will never do a single thing to change it. That’s not directed at you specifically; it’s more of a group comment.

I’m newer to the area so I don’t actually know where some of these areas are, but if anyone has any suggestions on where positive adults could be useful feel free to share.

Except ya know, maybe the owner.

It’s not like our government makes it easy for a small business to survive, let alone thrive. Being beaten down by the handicap of not being a giant corporation magnifies the way this affects the business.

As a father of a special needs child, I begrudgingly believe that these children’s parents probably wouldn’t see their children again if it were my kid. Not proud of that by any means. Just scared of what I would do
