Sorry you took it that way. I in no way meant to imply that. I know plenty of people, compassionate and active in social justice, who would not choose to watch. I don't hold that against them. I meant to say that for myself, I am an example of somebody who has not become less compassionate or empathetic for watching those things. In fact, I believe in some instances it has made me more so.

I (non-vegan) went with some family last year. When I looked at the menu, I only saw a few things that looked like they would normally appeal to me. However, everyone wanted to just order a bunch of stuff and split/share. I tried a ton of things I didn't even know the names or ingredients of (it was outside after dark and the ambiance made it hard to see) but everything, literally, everything was absolutely delicious. If you go, try to put any reservations aside and just try everything and anything.

i quoted you verbatim and stated in my post i dont watch these videos. by stating i'm no more likely to have compassion or act you inherently imply less likely.
i dont have any desire to argue with anyone on reddit either.

Nobody lives in Cranberry Township. There are fewer than 31k people there, less than 200K in all of Butler County.
Low taxes in Cranberry aren't sustainable. Eventually the local authority will have to raise taxes to match the service levels that people there expect, and those people will leave and move to the next cheap suburb where they can pay artificially low taxes. Same as it ever was.

Many would argue the assessment system is broken, in more recent years some of the gov't entities have been spot assessing recent buys effectively punishing the new owners.
That's a fair amount of people there, but something else to remember is much of the new SFH has been in Cranberry and along 68 because the taxes are somewhat tolerable. In this some parts of this county the same properties would have double the taxes and not be feasible to build in the first place.

Reply to Sheetz reviewing ‘smile policy’ that says employees can’t have visible dental issues by clydesawhill
Holy crap that’s a horrible policy and opens them up to tremendous scrutiny and criticism.
In America dental isn’t even touched under healthcare policies. Dental insurance is a joke. If you have it it’s probably $300 a year in premiums to cover $1000-1500 of work if you spend $2000-3000. A single crown will eat that and maybe more up instantly. A dental implant costs $5k or more for a single tooth and takes 3 visits over almost 9 months at best if you want to go that route. Step one of a dental implant is 90days with a missing tooth as your body fills in the scaffolding on the bone graft. Step two is opening it back up putting in the titanium anchor screw and closing it back up while your body heals around the screw for another few months. Then you finally have a tooth as they open your gums up expose the screw and put the top of the implant in.
Sheetz employees make what $12 or $13 an hour?
What a sadistic policy.
Either provide a generous comprehensive solution or recognize that we have a problem in America and at the very least don’t make a policy regarding it.

I just won't be able to do it. I know that news will show some stills and that will be too much for me. Empathy for his family and friends. So sad.

And no, I wouldn't buy a ticket to an execution. Especially since I'm against the death penalty

The news has been reporting that this tape is extra gruesome. And that's saying something given how many of these we've seen over the past 20 years. So sad. There are going to be lots of protests this weekend all over the country (and perhaps the world) and I don't blame anyone protesting.

Wasn't looking for a reddit argument today. How did I imply that you sit around on your hands? I said people who don't watch or no "more" likely to act or have compassion. Not less likely.

I'm kind-of "over" that whole restaurant group, or I was until recently -- because we went to The Rib Room, spent too much money, and had a hell of a good time.

Eating inside can be an adventure, depending on the employee vibes, not gonna lie. But the food is always exactly what it purports to be, and like you said -- largely Nigerian-based and spicy as hell.

Non alcoholic bottle shop in Allentown. I haven’t been there yet. You might as well just go with 0% as you won’t feel a thing from 1%. You can find kombucha at that level like the classic GTs that are delicious.

You can be outraged by police behavior and not have to watch every single new video of them killing someone in cold blood. Watching to see just exactly how bad this one was is in fact morbid curiosity. Like I said, I can't possibly think any less of police without watching but now one who doesn't watch it is part of the problem because they're ignoring it and indifferent to police violence? This is some serious self righteousness here

I do agree there is a degree of desensitization that comes along with regular viewing of such things. However, it's not as black and white as that. I viewed many of those things over the years, whether for curiosity sake or to just be informed. While there's a sense of the shock value being lost, my compassion has not waned. Nor has my desire for change. Those who refuse to watch any of the things you reference, including police brutality videos, are no more likely to initiate change or to feel more compassion for victims of violence. I'm 45. I've seen a lot. A whole lot. I have yet to become numb.

I don't agree in this instance. I see morbid curiosity more or less as something like viewing a car accident. The act of watching is solely because you want to see. Whereas when it comes to videos such as police brutality, I feel like my need to see is connected to my desire to not ignore the issue. There are plenty of things that I come across that I choose not to look at. But I feel like I can't look away from these things . If so, I become part of the problem. The indifference. Trust there are many a time when I wish I can be like others and just say that's awful, not watch and move on.
