Reply to Does anyone know how many laps of Friendship Park in Bloomfield it takes to make a mile? by Blaze_1263
My pedometer app says .4 miles, but I think that’s a bit high. Previous apps have put it closer to .35. That’s the oval path within the park, not the sidewalk on the perimeter

Do yourself a favor and go out in the sun, even if it’s only for 15 minutes. You WILL feel the difference.

I'd start with bus routes that connect the South Side with Squirrel Hill, and one that does South Side-North Side without going through Oakland and Bloomfield. Longer term, perhaps completing the West Busway into downtown, and extending the East Busway.
I'd love a bike trail that goes along the Ohio River from downtown until Coraopolis and Sewickley. Also, protected bike infrastructure for going into the South Hills and the West End.

Probably because it's been about two months since we've seen the sun. I'm loving it. All the gray days this time of year really negatively affect my mood, and this year seems to be even worse than normal. Get out your sunglasses and enjoy it!

You know the reason I didn't explicitly say this day is horrible is because I didn't want to offend people who really like the sun. But here you are......

There's a few ways to get a more accurate measurement, but going off of the scale on google maps I'd estimate the perimeter is around 1600 -1800 feet. There's 5280 feet in a mile. So 5280/1600 = 3.3 laps. or 5280/1800 = 2.9 laps. I'm reasonably confident walking 3 laps would get you close to a full mile.
Edit: Measured again, with slightly more accuracy (but still nothing super scientific) I think it is close to 1800 feet. Unless you are walking the inside sidewalk then it might be closer to 1700 feet. Either way, 3 laps

Honestly. YouTube.
Set-up the cameras to stream to a private steam that you know the link to. There's about a 5-8 second delay but it records constantly on YouTube and a mini PC can easily handle 4 USB cameras and with software you can combine all 4 into 1 video that can be streamed to YouTube.
Why pay for anything else. It works. 24/7 live stream with instant rewind and unlimited storage

I think you might need to explain the "decline of the black family". I've heard similar things said but it seems to be based on perceptions rather than reality.
From the book “Of Boys and Men:” “Black mothers are three times as likely as white mothers to be single parents (52% v. 16%) and half as likely to be living with a spouse (41% v. 78%).” That book is, in my opinion, downright cowardly in its failure to address the crime statistics for young black men and primary role that plays in perpetuating anti-black racism, but it does do a good job of explaining the social and financial pressures black women face compared to other “racial” groups.
Honestly, it seems like you're basing all of this off of how you see people respond on social media or in public forums.
Hon, I have 20+ years of experience off and on in left wing political orgs and social circles, and the loudest, most extreme voices on the internet are usually the loudest, most extreme voices in the room. It’s a one circle Venn diagram. Talking about racial issues in a way that is even remotely heterodox (i.e. the way most working class people of all “races” talk about them) is anathema.
Also, I think you might be ignoring the fact that some of those people being called names are actually saying shit that is racist, classist, and ageist. You can sincerely want to protect your neighborhood while doing all those things. In fact, wanting to "protect your neighborhood" can often make one more tribalistic and insular. I think it's important to point out those prejudices when we see them. I think most people are just too deluded or ashamed to see and admit that they harbor those prejudices.
And here you have made my argument better than I ever could have myself! “We must educate the ignorant masses to ignore their lying eyes” and “The scoldings will continue until moral improves;” a perfect encapsulation of the social half of why the left continues to fail to win an effective political majority!

Scabby is supposed to be put up in front of the businesses/headquarters of places under a strike as a symbol of the company being anti-union, but Scabby is here, in front of City Hall— not the PG— just as a symbol of the union, so they added the “not,” because Scabby isn’t striking against the City, or at least that’s my read of the situation.
