Local governments need to stop letting Giant Eagle bully them into maintaining little monopolies. They told Crafton that if Aldi was allowed into the Crafton/Ingram Shopping Center, they'd pull out.

It's crazy the prices that they get away with in a city with a relatively low cost of living otherwise. Giant Eagle is more expensive than Whole Foods.

here's more info. Used to be called the Voodoo Lounge. In 2002 the owner, John Wargo, said he was losing money on the bar and petitioned to change it into a strip club. It was approved by some zoning board, but I don't think the club ever opened.

PG Article from 2002 about the strip club vote

Trib article from 2003 saying that the strip club may have opened -- but maybe not

John Wargo's Obit from 2013

another obit with more info

Also saw that at some point 2 years before he died (of esophageal cancer) he came back to pittsburgh (he said his business was in miami now) and bought a 5000 sq foot home on Washington's Landing...

It used to be a dumpy ass biker bar back in the day and there's be motorcycles park all over the front. And now it's the place where the woman in the motorized wheelchair hangs out, asking for money. There's literally nothing behind it now. Just a empty lot. It's a pretty small parcel.

Earliest I can find on google maps is 2007 -- it was boarded up back then. I think the bar was there until 2005-ish.

Eh idk about a car being parked illegally being towed quickly. There’s a car near my house that’s been in the same spot with two flats clearly abandoned for over two years. And because the registration was still current, they wouldn’t tow despite it being illegally parked.

Registration was up at the end of last month and it’s still not gone. Not exactly a priority for the city.

Ive had Xfinity for years & no complaints about the technology itself. The worst part is their customer service & you have to jump through automated hoops before you get that far. Ive been in situations where they will unnecessarily send out a tech for something that can be fixed over the phone. There's a barrier with communication bc some reps dont speak very good English or cannot grasp what is being spoken. And when they do send a tech out, they require $150 payment that "gets refunded" in 2-3 months. At least, that is what happened when my MIL removed her deceased husband from the account. It was a ridiculous process. They created a brand new account, told her service would be out on the old account, which means no phone, and that they would CALL her when the new service is activated. Lol. However, phone runs through internet so network must be configured before the phone will work. They can do better, so much better.

And so many auto manufacturers as well. Cars are a loss leader for several as they make money from their credit services.

Heck - Airline frequent flyer programs serve the same purpose for large airlines as the programs have higher valuations and profits than the actual flying portion of the business.

This is a fundamental flaw in the current version of our economy/capitalism. The infinite growth mantra that has readily been preached for over 40 years is just not logistically feasible. Eventually there are constrained resources of some type, even if it is just the lack of agility of a large bloated company unable to pivot to meet the new latest and greatest whatchamacallit coming from the competition.

>When it comes to reliability though Comcast runs circles around the electrical grid in the area. Had short power outages nearly monthly, occasional longer ones where even the traffic lights would go down - but if you had your network on battery backup the internet worked just fine the entire time.

The electrical grid has nothing to do with internet traffic being transmitted over coax to your house, other than your devices needing electricity to function, but I guess if you needed to give Comcast a bonus point for "not being as shitty as the electrical grid" then I suppose this counts.
