The other variable is how often the houses are reassessed. PA doesn't have a mandatory reassessment timeline like other states, so some municipalities will reassess as soon as you buy, others do it randomly. It's a really confusing system and that's why you will see posts in this sub pretty often asking questions about property taxes.

Reply to Chicken Keeping In Pittsburgh by ClothesGreen8716
I occasionally watch my neighbors' chickens when they're out of town and I love it! There was one incident of something getting in (lost 2 that time) and another time they got out but I believe all came back... But considering that's all the chicken drama for 4 years, not too bad!
I think that a lot of our other neighbors have no clue the chickens are even back there.
I can occasionally hear them clucking from my house, but it's not disruptive or disturbing by any means. I think it's so cool to be able to hear both the T announcing "Red Line, North Shore" and chickens from my yard. Oh, Beechview.

Reply to Sinkhole on Biddle opening up again by SpecialKayla
I noticed a couple months ago that the city went around and labeled a bunch of sink holes 'hole' and then about a month later they put a layer of asphalt over it to 'fix it'

My nephew goes to school in Fayette county and they were on lockdown for a false alarm shooting this morning. My sister was just alerted that there have been calls like this nationwide today.
Edit: more schools https://www.wtaj.com/news/local-news/police-swarm-multiple-local-schools-after-reports-of-shootings-believed-to-be-hoax/

Trying to wait it out as long as possible, but might need to do a little trimming. We have the WORST “grass.” But I want to give the little violets a chance to bloom, and pollinators a chance to do their thing.

My neighbor did his this past Sunday on his riding mower. He's retired and probably did it mostly to clean up the leaves and crap.

Any chipped ham will do, the sauce is the differentiator

Reply to comment by LostOldAccountTimmay in Yo! When’s your first grass cut gonna happen this year? by Pancake108
Gas-powered lawn and garden equipment is responsible for 24-45% of non-road carbon emissions, about half of other forms of air pollution, and 4% of total C02 emissions. Gas-powered mowers and leaf blowers are among the least energy efficient, most polluting combustion engines in existence. Operating a lawnmower for an hour produces the same amount of emissions as driving a typical car for 500 miles.
That's not taking into account the harmful effects of monoculture grass lawns on native species and pollinators anyway. Lawns are truly one of our dumbest hobbies.

It always amazes me how many people enjoy mowing and finicking with grass. I prefer to spend my time outdoors doing things other than lawn maintenance. Good landscapers are worth their weight in gold. You do you though!
That said, thank y'all lawn enthusiasts for your hard work keeping the golf courses in good shape! My slightly above average short game appreciates (and needs) you!

Reply to Other than turning off the community setting, is there anything we can do to prevent this sub from crashing? by toolatetobeoriginal
I use the ReddPlanet app on iOS and the dev said it was the banner image causing it. There's some option he was able to set called "mobile_banner_image" and that fixed it from crashing anymore for me.
