Exactly. Actual terrorists (foreign or domestic) would be judging response times and protocols to better plan for the real event.

Beyond that possibly excessive conspiracy thinking, this kind of thing is a massive waste of resources, which is the point. Hundreds upon hundreds of first responders rolling out for hoaxes just drains money and manpower and inspires panic and terror across the response area.

The Vanderbilt piece is from 1999 when, say it says, circuit courts were divided on the non profit factor. The way the case law has since settled is the FTC retains jurisdiction to review mergers regardless of status, it is prohibited to enforce anti trust laws against non profit health care entities generally. UPMC's growth lately has not been mergers but building new facilities.

FTC Chairman Joseph Simons said his team would like to do more to address Grassley's concerns but that they are butting up against statutory limitations.

"We're very interested in looking at unilateral conduct by hospitals, that are problematic under the antitrust laws," Simons said. "But, generally when we do that, we find that they're nonprofits, and we don't have jurisdiction over them."

"That's another reason why we've been asking the Congress to eliminate our exemption for nonprofits," Simons said.

"Gosh, I never gave that any thought," Grassley replied. "We ought to consider that."

I'm generalizing a bit. The DOJ retains jurisdiction over non profit hospitals but a more narrow set of issues, but has gone after some for wage collusion.

Laurel highlands, central catholic, holidaysburg, Altoona, hopewell. These schools all had shooter reports today. News is reporting it as nationwide robocall hoax.

I never said any were hoaxes. I came in initially saying a similar situation was happening at my nephews school an hour outside the city at the same time and found other schools in the area were as well.

The point of emissions and impact on the environment is certainly the most important aspect of the discussion. But the call out was waste, and the amount of consumption vs total, especially for energy production has to be small.

I wasn't really arguing for lawns or fossil fuel, moreso looking for perspective on the actual consumption amounts because I was curious

I’ve been listening to the scanner all morning. A Central Catholic student called UPMC Police who then called regular Police stating that there were “6 people shot in a second floor bathroom.”

Police responded and found no active shooter or victims, however they are locking down and evacuating as a precaution.

The article you responded to saying it’s stupid to spread contained the Pennsylvania State Police saying they believe it’s a coordinated swatting attack.

So many shuttup and follow your own advice.

I never spread guesses. I posted reports of this happening at other schools in the region this morning. My nephews school is reporting to parents that this is a nationwide issue today and not an isolated incident. I hope the situation at CC is as well.

Pittsburgh ham BBQ made easy.

  1. Go to local deli and request Islay's chip chopped ham. Chipped chopped is how you want it sliced.
  2. Buy a jar of Islay's BBQ sauce. 3 Boil ham in sauce for 20 minutes.
  3. Serve on a roll. If you want some N.E. Pennsylvania flair, serve on a hard roll.
  4. Enjoy.

I agree. I've worked for the museums in a variety of positions, volunteer, long term part time, occasional, full time, all in varying departments for over two decades now. The false promises that I've been told over the years and the mistreatment that I've witnessed or endured is why I am strongly in support of our efforts and will remain so.

I am not saying that CMP is in the right in anyway. I am acknowledging that we have entered a political negotiation and it's a long and painful process. I am here for the fight, but I am encountering a lot of folks that were expecting a fast an immediate change which is not entirely realistic, unfortunately.
