although both Eide's and The Exchange both have a "trade for store credit" thing going on, i personally would rather use my store credit at Eide's than The Exchange because Eide's has a wider selection of things that i, personally, like.

if you're just looking for the be$t bang for your buck, i still believe Eide's is your best bet. they're all annoyingly pretentious...i get that. but they know their stuff and will give you a fair price. if you walk in with a bunch of disney VHS clamshells and expect top dollar, you'll get a hearty laugh all the way out the door. walking in with some rareties would make you a preferred customer for life.

also, and anyone from The Exchange * or * Eide's can correct me if i am wrong, i think The Exchange looks at "what did this item fetch on ebay lately?" and they'll price the item according to that. i do not believe Eide's does that. i hate when "experts" rely on ebay prices to determine value.

hope that helps!

I have a copy of a book about a post-zombie world. Pittsburgh is one of the few surviving cities because they were protected by the rivers, making it easier to defend. It was a good concept. Too bad it was so poorly written, I couldn't get through it. (Tons of grammatical and spelling errors.)

I have frequent issues where packages sent to me have improperly covered old labels, and then they get stuck in an infinite loop because some centers read the new label and some read the old. I'm currently waiting on a package that's gone across the country 3 times. USPS was supposed to flag it for manual sorting but that didn't happen.

> we're at the endemic phase of the pandemic.

You don't know what that word means and you're misusing it.

Covid is the leading cause of death in America that isn't heart disease or cancer and it's going to continue to be that for the foreseeable future. Restaurants are incredibly good at spreading Covid.

> what we have in the way of harm reduction is what we're going to get.

And if people decided their version of harm reduction was getting out of a risky profession that paid like shit, good on them.

Every restaurant in this city that's closed recently has cited staffing concerns as a major contributor. People don't want to risk their lives for shit wages. I know people who used the pandemic to get out of the hospitality industry entirely and I doubt they're the only ones.

Anyone know if the Blue Flame in Clairton(?) is still open/any good?

I no longer live in the area but recall eating breakfast there at 0 dark thirty when I would occasionally go with my Dad to his jobsite at the Allegheny Mountain Tunnel project on the PA Turnpike in the mid '60's.

Great memories!

I also see further down in the comments you're talking about Squirrel Hill- those apartments are probably more on the expensive side but most of them are in super nice old buildings and are absolutely worth it compared to those new luxury complexes.
