It depends on where you are. Mostly it's just people in costumes or who really like animal style art hanging out and meeting each other. The parties are loud, the dance is an EDM fueled shakedown where 1000+ people cram into a room and reach critical mass, and most furries love taking over restaurants and tipping well.

There's a lot less sex than the Media likes to show, but "just sorta hanging out with people who share interests and like art" doesn't get the ratings.

Echoing above commenter they said avoid the Woodstock side. Like the plague.

There are a lot of condemned houses and vacants in Swissvale, I lived there for eight years and the borough doesn’t have any budget anymore for tearing down those homes that are a blight. It’s unfortunate because it would create parcels between houses that the neighbors can buy and use as green space.

There are a fair amount of shootings in Swissvale but outside of a child getting killed in a retaliatory shooting on Columbia Ave I don’t remember any of them being random. EDIT: oops forgot about the woman and child who were killed last month. So a FEW dead kids but hey.

One big thing to note is the Commercial Street Bridge (the bridge that goes into the SH tunnel) is set to be replaced soon and Commercial Street itself will be shut for years. There will be no good cut around for avoiding the tunnels when that happens and that construction project is going to be an absolute bear.

If you live up on the slopes side, watch out for Mark the Tweaker. Keep your yard implements inside or they will absolutely go missing.

Expect to get yelled at by the school kids a lot.

We hang out at panels, buy stuff at the vendor area, maybe go peruse the 18+ art auction. So much weird fetish art, kinda fun to explore it. And then back into the general con to head to another panel, or go hang out at the hotel with friends that we've only met online or at other cons. Pretty standard con stuff.

The hotel parties are either totally tame nerds getting drunk and playing board games or really horny, depends on the crowd.

I used to work at the casino in Food & Beverage. They don't want to draw a drunk, rowdy crowd (hence not going the 24/7 liquor license). But more than that, they run F&B almost as a separate business and adjust restaurant hours to maintain profitability. I personally didn't agree with closing many of the venues as early as they did/do, but it's just the business model they use.

Who knows. Their dress code always seemed so arbitrary (apparently converse shoes are an issue? Also had a friend denied entry on that) and completely up to the specific bouncer anyway. I always found Jimmy D's annoying because of that. The predatory patrons were the final nail in the coffin though, and I outright refuse to go Jimmy D's anymore for that specific reason.
