As for now that’s still up in the air. Mackin and the consulting parties like the idea of keeping the tracks at the begging of the bridge where they split. But that will be challenging as they have to pour concrete to be level will the rails which is smooth and rounded off and not squared off. Also they will have to add some sort of clear coat on the rail to cyclist don’t slide and fall when they are wet. They might get rid of the ones on the bridge, but who knows that’s still months away and many more meeting and discussions to get through.

Yes but when people refer to “pittsburgh” they often are not specifically talking about city limits pittsburgh. For example I know people from Sewickly that would still say “im from pittsburgh” if someone asked them.

Wpxi reported the other day that Highmark has plans to announce changes to its Work From Anywhere policy this coming Monday as well. Haven’t seen or heard about it anywhere else though. These companies really are stuck in the past. I know several people they hired specifically as “100% work from anywhere”.

For them to just completely alter such a large part of the job like that just because there are layoffs everywhere and they have the power to do so is completely unethical. Many people took these jobs specifically because of that agreement, and now the companies are deciding to change it, employees don’t have much of an option because the job market is so screwed in tech right now.

Please reread, as you've misread the post you're replying to. It said nothing about relative rail safety. Instead, it was referring to how our freight rale is safer than ever. It has been getting dramatically safer for many decades.

Here's an article with some stats:
https://www.npr.org/2023/03/09/1161921856/there-are-about-3-u-s-train-derailments-per-day-they-arent-usually-major-disaste

Even with more rail miles traveled, there were 44% fewer derailments last year than in 2000. There were 1164 last year as compared to 8763 in 1978. Certainly, 1978 was a bad year but it demonstrates the trend.

If you want to investigate further, raw data is available from the Federal Railroad Administratrion Office of Safety Analysis:
https://safetydata.fra.dot.gov/OfficeofSafety/publicsite/Query/TenYearAccidentIncidentOverview.aspx

RAAC/ACED Owns the bridge and Carrie Furnace site. Mackin Engineering is the company that will be doing the designs and construction. As for the consulting parties that includes: SHPO, RIDC, Rivers of Steel, friends of the riverfront, and a few more I can’t remember off the top of my head. So far we have $6 million in funding but it’s estimated it’s gonna take about $10 million.

I don't think there's anything wrong with your advice of continuing to look at what's out there if they extend an offer to him. All of this feels like it's just to keep the commercial real estate market from collapsing.
