If you're interested in fitness-type dancing that could open up a lot of options. Here's one place I have not tried it personally: https://www.providencehealthandfitness.com/book-a-class/

There is a semblance of a story here, but its hard to find seeped in how dramatized this is.
There seems to be two loosely related parts that GoLocal is:
-
violence is increasing in ppsd(?) They don't seem to make this claim directly probably because they don't have any clear data to sort this out. So they just vaguely refer to certain violence.
-
Teacher vacancy (This is an issue, but there are arguably 100 other reasons contributing to this. I'd be willing to wager that this is probably not even top 5 given the scathing coverage the district gets in other areas). Safety is an issue at every school, including the other districts in the state that break up fights and confiscate items.
But let's say that it is probably true that some Providence schools have more issues with safety than other schools (and some teachers and students feel unsafe). So what's the solution? Don't expect it from GoLocal. They're just going to ask 100 rhetorical questions under the guise of safety, but really in a way that incites fear about the local community.
I encourage you all to volunteer with local organizations that let you meet community members and youth. Stories like this just create divison here.

Finding an apartment is miserable. You're gonna get the standard advice (and sort by "new"). I want to also add that I have a friend who moves states every few months and has had good luck with places like Sublet (.com) which might tide you over until you get to know neighborhoods. It is also is a huge help for her when it comes to making connections in the area. There are not a ton of postings here, but I've seen a handful and they are pretty affordable (700-800 due to many roommates).
Also, I would encourage you to be open to Feb options in case a particularly good option pops up. I was looking a few months out, but ended up renting a month earlier because I knew I found the best option. With low vacancy, I saw a lot of people getting desperate because they had to be somewhere and 30 days wasn't enough time-- it was really heartbreaking to see (group showings/ open house thimgs).

Ideally around 1,000 not including utilities as my max, if with roommates I'd prefer to pay less. Currently paying 980 with utilities and rent in a house with 4 other roommates

From the article:
"In four weeks, there have been multiple injuries, ambulances, assaults, arrests and felony charges not at the ACI, but at Providence Public Schools.
The incidents have included students, staff, and a principal being injured.
Many of these events involved knives. Others were beatings."
and...
"Presently, the Providence School Department website now lists more than 350 job vacancies.
Teachers and staff are quitting in droves, at a time when there is full employment and workers — especially teachers — can be selective.
Who would take a job in a work environment in which violence and felonies are the norm?"

Thank you for the suggestion! Right now I’m borrowing my boyfriend’s beater car, but I know it’s not up for drives to Stamford like I’m scheduled for next week. I have full coverage car insurance and it covers theft, so I’m going to call tomorrow and see if it also covers a rental car. If not, I might need to look into that.

No, unfortunately! My beats are in there but they’re not on so I don’t think I can use my location for those.

You might want to post on the NextDoor app for any leads. March is kind of a funky month for finding a place- more open up after the students leave in May.

I should add that I work remote, have savings, and can pack everything in my car if needed and sell off furniture.

If you want to dance every night, go for it. No one in PVD will care. In fact, some may join you.
If you want to dance in a CLUB every night of the week…well…that’s going to be a taller order.
You could open your own place…!

What color is your car? I live off Killingly Street, so I will look for it when I'm out and about today. Our neighborhood def has an issue with cars being gone through, sorry they got yours.

Sorry to hear about this and it truly sucks. Just a word of advice based on my experience, should it be found and not have to go to a tow garage you should be fine.
In the case it does go to a tow garage be prepared to pay some fees to get it out of storage, in the case this car was used in another crime, be prepared to deal with not only incompetent local police but stupid ass state cops as well, on top of the tow garage idiots and fees.
My moms car got stolen once but it was also used in another crime. When we called they treated us like the criminals who stole when we were trying to get it back. The state trooper was the worse and then the schmuck at the tow garage. We eventually get the car back after 2-3 days and paying the fee to get it out. Think it was $120 to $150 if memory serves me correct. But here is the fucking kicker, we got the car back with a paper stating we paid or something from the tow garage, however either their negligence or the Providence police department negligence never removed it off the stolen list in their database, several months later my mom was pulled over in that car by like 6 cops in our neighborhood, her English is ok and lucky that paper was in the car, I can only imagine how terrified she was. How the fuck are you going to steal your own car was running through my mind, I probably would have gotten arrested if I was there to be honest.

It depends on the restaurant though. I'm up in the northern part of the state, so it's generally Asia Grille or Chan's for me. Both were open on Christmas eve, but I believe both were closed on Christmas day.
