The maître d’ stops by to say hello to McDermott, then notices we don’t have our complimentary Bellinis, and runs off before any of us can stop him. I’m not sure how McDermott knows Alain so well—maybe Cecelia?—and it slightly pisses me off but I decide to even up the score a little bit by showing everyone my new business card. I pull it out of my gazelleskin wallet (Barney’s, $850) and slap it on the table, waiting for reactions.

Of course everything is racist ok, you got some not all suburban riff raff then you get some people who lived in shitty areas of Providence all their lives that just happen to make it to the nearby burbs and bring their shitty practices which leads to the people you see at Crossroads.

Diversity if you seen more East Asian students in Providence classrooms a'lot of people would be crying. Oh no my Lee is out performing everyone is academics even the teacher how will my kids compete. Don't you read the news even Harvard and other higher institutions of learning can do legally do this. Check ex mayor from NYC Bill DeBlasio and specialized high schools and what he tried to do all for "diversity"

I used that as an example of crime which often goes unreported and is thus underreported + requires estimates to fill in the gap

All I'm saying is that there's been a shooting every weekend in 2023 and that's not great news, I hope that trend doesn't continue. Crime is clearly on the rise in PVD right now

Holy cow! Rates must be way higher in city limits, which I guess makes sense.

I have a new car and it's $300 for six months, full comprehensive.

Shitty situation being in a place where it's so dense that having a car is annoying, but without enough infrastructure that not having a car is impossible.

If walkability is important to you, I’d stay as close to downtown as possible. There are newer complexes downtown and just outside of downtown. The east side is walkable but it’s the most expensive neighborhood in the city. I live in the Federal Hill neighborhood. Walking distance to downtown with a lot of restaurants. It’s getting pricey and it’s a little loud. One area on the upswing that borders downtown is the Kinsley Ave area. They are renovating a lot of old industrial buildings over there. Some loft type developments and they do an indoor farmers market. That’s the only area of Providence that reminds me even slightly of Austin.

I tried to work for prov system, got hired/background checks and everything and then they lost my file and kept asking for the same paperwork (3 times).

I ended up giving up after 2-3 months when they said onboarding would take 2-3 weeks.

I also heard from other teachers there are a LOT of fights between students, and it’s just not a good situation at all there.
