The Asian population excluding college students is less than %5 in Providence and probably declining. At one time there use to be a Chinatown in downtown Providence which consisted of a couple streets.

Enclave areas of Providence such as Smith Hill , West End, even South Side used to house many Southeast Asian refugees from Laos and Cambodia that came late 70's early 80's. Majority have either moved to other neighborhoods/ cities or just moved out of state. You can see some business still in existence along with a Southeast Asian cultural center on Elmwood Ave. There are existing Theravada Buddhist centers still in Providence that cater to the Cambodian community, I know there are maybe 2. Also another one in Cranston, a Laotian catered temple in North Smithfield and Woonsocket.

As far as bars/clubs that Asian people go to well there are none that focus specifically on Asians, most go to whatever bar/club of their choice

FYI this city has never had a person of any Asian descent run for mayor, never had an Asian descent person on city council albeit 1 girl ran last year. There hasn't been much migration since the last wave from the 70's/80's. You might see a lot of Indian people now but not enough where they have an enclave area.

Usually Asians (East/South/Southeast) are left out of most social things due to the numbers.

Surprisingly if you go next door in Massachusetts to Worcester, Boston, Lowell they actually have some large size communities of Chinese, Vietnamese, Cambodian . On top of smaller Asian communities.

There is a gallery reception this Saturday from 5-7 in Jamestown featuring a Cambodian photographer and her work. Most of her photos are of other south Asians/East Asians and their family, some of whom will be there to see their photos. Could be a good start there to meet that community of support for her.

Edit to add source: am Asian

Welcome!

For art scene (check social media to see if they’re open), check out: -RISD Museum -Central Contemporary Arts -Worlds Fair Gallery -The Wurks -Nicholson File -Waterfire Arts Center

For living: I were single professional in my 20’s I’d honestly life downtown/jewelry district. There’s cool restaurants and bars there, a new market, it’s walkable. Otherwise, check out Fox Point (walk down Wickenden and Ives) and the West Side (around Broadway and Westminster, walk down West Fountain Street and Broadway).
