This should be higher up before people blindly donate.

I think you over explained it but it basically comes down to basically DONT ASK FOR A TIP AND NO TIPPING at a mechanic shop or if you picking up takeout.

Full time (40 hours a week) at $15 an hour is $30k a year.
$16 an hour is $32k.
$17 an hour is $34k.
NONE of these are livable wages in 2023.

I would've asked for my change, and if refused I would ask to speak with the shift manager. Tipping is not and should not be compulsory unless it's a gratuity for a large group.

Yeah that's fast food in a nutshell but some places worse than others. People hate on the self service kiosk but I think that is awesome that way your in control on how you want it by bypassing the cashier and going straight to the person that's making it. Now should there be an error then its the person making its fault or kiosk.

>It would take a long time and a huge cultural shift for Americans to be able to see the same plate of food or product they used to get for "$10" suddenly being $13 or even $15.
Umm that's what has happened almost everywhere during the past 2 years.

No I understand well and clear I was just telling you how it happened. I've seen that same screen at Domino's and they have 4 prompts one of them being "no tip" and the cashier will press it themselves as well.

Oh definitely, competition didn't create their problems. But I think the competition probably increased the severity and urgency.

I never heard of such but this was a 1st for me. The mechanic didn't ask verbally or anything but it was on the payment tablet in big bold red color. Probably trying to guilt trip or in this case guilt tip.
Didn't get nothing more than the cost of service.

i guess basic service. no one ever got my order right. and it would drive me fucking crazy at taco bell cause you pay extra for "supreme", then you get your food and there would never be fucking tomoatos or sour cream.

Love this idea! There are little free pantries elsewhere, including at the old fire station on mineral spring avenue in NP.

it seems that you clearly don’t understand that part, if you follow it up immediately with an example of how you don’t understand it.

well in the case of the mechanic shop that showed the tip option on payment table , this is an independently ran shop, I doubt he has guys working for less than market rate or else he wouldn't have employees. Just emphasizing the fact it was at a mechanics shop was a shocker.

As far as quality or basic service?
I remember Bojangles was a go to spot for me down south, the service was ok for fast food but this was a couple decades ago.

I'm sure that TJs (and Rory's) opening didn't help, but it seems like they've been struggling for quite a while-- like even before they got rid of the last GM.

I don't eat a ton of fast food, but compared to fast food places in the south, Providence is 10x better.

“Food desert” doesn’t mean “prime location for a grocery store” — often these places are food deserts exactly because they’re tough locations. For instance, dollar stores specifically target these locations and will work to drive out traditional grocery stores by selling cheap non-perishables. In addition, you often have corner stores selling produce and meat directly in neighborhoods (there are multiple on Cranston St., one on Messer, and another on Westminster). With Urban Greens, they’re competing with those corner stores plus at least one dollar store, and a butcher. Meanwhile, I would guess the local market that will basically only shop at a traditional grocery store is fairly small, likely already had an alternative (or might be doing delivery), and is easily poachable by, say, Trader Joe’s.
