Olneyvillle. Also mostly run by Guatemalans or Ecuadorians, but they know their business.

Haven't been in years but back when I lived in Providence my friend from Mexico City loved the Pozole they had on weekends at Restaurant Mexico Garibaldi on Atwells. If you don't like it then Chilangos is just down the hill. I remember Lupita on Dexter St. in Central Falls being great too.
Providence area does fairly well with Mexican food from Mexico, but it does not do Tex Mex, just to adjust your expectations.

There are not a lot of people with Mexican heritage here, it's mostly Dominicans, Puerto Ricans and Guatemalans for Hispanic heritage. I like mi Guatemala on atwells, not sure how close that is to the Mexican food you are used to, but I'm guessing similar to southern Mexican cuisine. Don Jose on atwells is good too and that is a Mexican restaurant.

Reply to Three years after closing for renovations, Providence’s Duck & Bunny plans to finally rebuild by rhodyjourno
FROM THE STORY: On his left shoulder, Dan Becker’s only tattoo is the logo of the first restaurant he ever owned in his hometown: the Duck & Bunny.
For the decade it was open, Duck & Bunny was a snuggery that was nothing short of a smash hit. They served speciality crêpes, charcuterie plates, scones, and gourmet cupcakes. Their afternoon tea time was served with a selection of finger sandwiches and cookies. Cocktails had a delicate elegance to them, some prosecco-laced and flavored with lavender or garnished with bright berries.
The building was painted pastel pink, which blended with the rest of colorful, but quaint, Wickenden Street. Inside, the walls were adorned with paintings of ducks and bunnies that were playful — like a duck wearing pearl earrings.
The snuggery was an appropriately warm and inviting place, mimicking the snuggery taverns of old England, where the owners — Dan Becker and his wife Jessica — were able to marry their desire of opening a bar and a teashop together, respectively. And they earned numerous restaurant awards from local publications.
But since 2019, the Duck & Bunny hasn’t been open. Becker told the Globe in an exclusive interview that the Duck & Bunny, what he calls his “most prized restaurant,” will begin rebuilding soon and make its full return “within the next year.”

Does Thayer St even have places that sell alcohol past 10pm anymore?

I'd love to answer this but I haven't been east of the Providence river in a decade.

Funny, I was just talking to some new (young...hip) arrivals to PVD who were hunting for a neighborhood to settle and I said the West Side. I would have loved that area as a younger adult. I had a family and too many pets so I chose Elmhurst and then Blackstone/Wayland- love both (but I'm a PVD fan, lol). It is definitely more quiet on the east side, but people do go out and there are busy restaurants and bars. More restrained in Hope, Blackstone and Wayland, while Fox Point and College Hill have a younger, lively vibe. With the colleges here , there are plenty of single/younger/childfree professionals. Lots of ways to meet each other and connect- there are flea markets, fairs, history stuff, arty stuff, music, running and cycling groups, yoga, whatever you're into. It's all very walkable- love that aspect of living here. I've had no problem meeting people with or without kids. People love to hang out, love an invitation. Still, I do get the draw to the west side and go there now and then for meeting friends.

One thing I’d say about Federal Hill: when I was moving to PVD, I’m super grateful that I went to look at places/neighborhoods. The places in federal hill seemed good, but we’re in not well maintained buildings, sketchy people living in them (they are mostly multi families).
Providence and the East Coast are different than Minnesota housing wise. Most Providence options are in multi family houses with 2-4 units. Who your neighbors are above/below really make a difference. and how the building is managed. There are apt buildings but less common.
Just something to be cognoscente pf

Lived in Smith Hill area and took back roads to Bryant. Smith Hill may be sketchy for some but it was not so bad when I lived there. It was probably under 30 minutes even with the red lights. Mount Pleasant will put you even closer of a drive using back roads. The highway gets really congested in the morning so I'd avoid that.

Imagine getting downvoted for just having a conversation with your virtual neighbors. This subreddit can be sorta shit sometimes.

I too have personally been victimized by Rose. 🙋♀️ I rented from her for around 5 years, and was a model tenant. Every time one of my roommates left, they would hire a professional cleaner, and when Rose would inspect the apartment, she’d claim it was “FILTHY,” and that she’d have to take the money out of their deposit in order to hire a proper cleaner.
Being that I was a model tenant for so long, and had a rapport with her despite her antics, I really didn’t believe she would do that to me as well when I left. Adding to the egregiousness, when I left, 2 of my roommates had blocked me on everything, and stuck me with the final bills. They never hired cleaners, and people had already moved into their rooms. (One of them actually works for the RI government. JAY GORMAN WEGIMONT, IF YOU’RE READING THIS, YOU’RE A DOUCHE.)
I hired a cleaner to clean my room and the common areas. I knew she nitpicked about the blinds and ceiling fans, so I ensured mine were clean. Rose ended up sending me photos of the dirty fans in Jay and the other roommate’s rooms and told me either they had to come back and clean, which I had no way of contacting them, or have my cleaner come back and clean those rooms as well, even though they didn’t contribute to the cleaner, and more rooms would have cost me more. AND they were already being occupied by new people.
To add insult to injury, Rose ended up taking more out of my deposit than my roommates.’
She did it just to beat us from getting our deposits back, even though I never did any damage to the apartment over the years.
She did it to my sister and her husband as well. She wouldn’t give their deposit back, claiming they had to go to their former landlord, nor their pet deposit back, claiming there was dog hair “EVERYWHERE” and the place “STANK” - the dog doesn’t shed, and my sister is a clean freak. Just blatant, outrageous untruths. Don’t rent from this woman.

No. We are giving them $29 million off of taxes owed on the value of the building after renovation, which still results is higher revenue than what is being received now. Think of it as 50% of $1 rather than 100% of 25 cents.

Also the property value is strong in this area. Even in a downturn property there will still be sought.

Chilangos and casa Azul are good. Also if you ever want more upscale service and really good food, check out Dolores, pricier and more of a date night/celebration kinda deal with good cocktails but the food was so good. Highly recommend the Pork Belly Huarache and the lengua tacos.
