Every Sunday there is a queer knitting group at Small Format
Cafe. I know you said no bar culture but there is a group I meet up with every
Monday at Moniker Brewery called "Queers and Beers".
It's a huge group and a lot of members don't drink. You can
find more. https://instagram.com/queersandbeersofri?igshid=Yzg5MTU1MDY=

There is also a queer rock climbing group called
"Queers Who Climb". https://instagram.com/queers.who.climb?igshid=Yzg5MTU1MDY=

and my favorite is "Queeraoke"

Being so new to the area I was looking for more of Providence specifically just since I will have a group with me and all that and living within 2 miles of Downtown.

But good to know about Newport if anything changes.

I think the effect is the same, it's just being called something else. In either case it takes the tipping decision out of the patrons' hands and makes it a cost built into the overall price, so that the income is reliable, predictable, and not reliant on the whims of the often hostile and/or biased public.

Whoa, confirmation bias.

Also people typing random names without evidence and getting upvoted is also yikes.

Edit: No surprise this comment was mass downvoted. r/providence always complaining about horrible journalism but gladly contributes to it. Stay classy.

I agree, but I’ll also throw in that there are different schools of thought here. One is that tipping itself is silly. The other is that tipping is fine, but inequitable, since tips are correlated with how attractive patrons find the server to be. The flat charge addresses the second issue, while keeping the idea of a tip in place.

I'm well aware of how sound and the decibel scale work. 3 dB represents the minimum noticeable increase in sound level outside of a controlled research lab. 60-70 dB is pretty typical for a city, which isn't great for annoyance thresholds, but in terms of sleep deprivation, that usually has more to do with structural insulation of residences. I don't have the measurements for other cities, but I imagine a place like NYC averages at least 70 dB if not higher.

Music and comedy open mics are usually in bars. That's part of their economic model. I wouldn't rule a bar out. Anyhow, there are comedy open mics all around the metropolitan area, but I don't know of any specifically on the Pawtucket line. There's Copperfield's in Johnston (Tuesdays), Pub on Park in Cranston (Mondays), Park Place Cafe in Cranston (Wednesdays), Town Pub in EP (Thursdays), and others. Most will have music open mics on other nights.
