All I’m going to say is that some Job Lots in MA sell wine and weird brands of hard seltzer. It’s both confusing and remarkable.

booze is great but the blue laws of the northeast are part of the unique character. Booze is just poison, I don’t mind that there’s this slightest inconvenience passed down by some ancient puritanical morality. When I go to places where booze is available everywhere it’s… kinda less fun. Packie 4 life.

It allows for small businesses to emerge and cash in on the liquor and beer sales rather than the big corps like Walmart and Stop and shop
IMO it’s a good thing—even if all the liquor stores in RI are owned by like 5 family’s lol

I moved to RI over 20 years ago. My husband and I went to stop and shop to pick up wine for a party soon after we moved here. Couldn't find the liquor aisle.. asked an employee and they told me to check aisle 10. Found another employee who told us we needed to go to the liquor store. Was complete culture shock.. hey at least you can buy alcohol on Sunday now lol..maybe the blue laws will change one day 😂

Liquor stores go to war every time that blue law is threatened. I’m still surprised it partially succeeded in MA.

It's a RI thing where grocery stores aren't allowed to sell alcohol

I think Foglia in Bristol could be considered fine dining. The chef is incredible too. I personally haven’t worked with him, but I’ve tried his food a few times over the years and it’s been great. It’s also fully vegan.

You mean the one half the manufacturers aren't eligible for? The one that still requires someone to front the money, and have a federal tax liability high enough to claim the credit against? Those are significant stumbling blocks for a lot of folks.
>You will find a $30K Equinox EV when it launches
I don't believe it.

Philly intentionally neglected their streetcar system. SEPTA is a mess for a whole host of reasons, but the main one is that all the counties involved in it have to all agree on projects. Suburbanites don't want to fund urban transit. That's oversimplifying it, but it's a major impediment to improving transit in Philly proper. Here's a good recent video about the streetcars there (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DYXx3CgwmHY)
And people will use transit if it's reliable and frequent. And yes, infrastructure isn't cheap but how much money have we dumped into the 6/10 rebuild and the downtown viaduct on 95? Putting tracks in a street and running wires overhead really isn't very expensive, and the savings in maintenance on vehicles that have no combustion engines, and aren't subject to potholes more than makes up for it. Trams are ubiquitous in most of the developed world, except here. Take a look at the transit networks in places like Bilbao, Bordeaux, or Utrecht. They are all similarly sized metro areas to Providence and it really emphasizes what a joke transit is over here.

Yes I figured but didn't have any, so ...
And while you can drive to top of Neutaconkanut Hill, parking in the lot on Plainfield and climbing its marked trails is fun ... and offers great views.
Amazing that it's in a state capital city: it seems more removed.

At what cost to install and maintain though? And would people use them?
Philly ended up ditching most of their streetcars decades ago because people stopped riding them.
And the tracks and electric delivery system in that photo can’t be cheap.

The San Fran Streetcars are antique novelties that are loud and rattly. Modern updated rolling stock can solve that problem.

You’re comparing base retail prices.
Go look at the cars that are actually for sale. Compare prices at Tasca Ford for an Edge or Explorer with the price for a Mach E.
Same is true with the Malibu. Check out and compare the prices for vehicles on the lots at a Chevy dealer.
You’re also ignoring the $7,500 income tax credit that comes with the EVs. For the average buyer, they’re significantly cheaper after the credit than a comparable ICE vehicle — even if you manage to find the rare strippo base model ICE machines you’re pricing out there.
For example, you won’t find that base $26K Equinox gas anywhere in RI at any dealer lot. You will find a $30K Equinox EV when it launches — and with the tax credit it will be a $23,500 Equinox EV.

I don't mean to argue, but that's just not true. Look at the list you gave...
A Bolt is a compact hatch, while a Malibu is a full size sedan but still $1k cheaper.
A Mach-E starts at $46,000 after a price reduction last week. An Explorer starts at $36k, and an Edge starts just under $38k (which is interesting, I would have thought an Explorer would be more expensive).
The hypothetical $30k Equinox is more than the $26k gas Equinox.

Although the Dig itself was a fiasco, no one is complaining about how great the greenway is…
There’s federal money available to do just this. It’s a connecting neighborhoods program. If you take a look at the article I linked it says that the time to apply ends 2027 though. So it’s feasible that most of the project could be paid for by the federal government. I’m sure that would ease some of the worries state level even if somebody’s cousin still winds up being the person getting that fed money.

Used car prices need to come down, yes. But EVs cost about what a comparable gas car costs, new.
