Reply to providence urban trail network funding by jconti1233
Any idea if they might build a safe way to bicycle into Providence from Cranston?

I'm excited and optimistic on it! Glad that it's going towards improveing walkability and bikeability in Providence.
Some promising statements here from Sen. Jack Reed:
>the project will help to “build out the network by creating last-mile connections to residential, employment, and cultural activity centers” between neighborhoods in the city and eliminate serious crashes for “vulnerable road users.”
“The trails are a combination of on-road and road-adjacent protected bicycle lanes and shared-use trails, neighborhood greenways on low volume streets, and off-road shared use paths,” the spokesperson added.

cool good to know thank you!!

I think it would be a fun little trip. Block Island is a totally different world when it's not filled with SUVs from the tri-state area.
There is a handful of good year round restaurants in Old Harbor. Flying is a cool option too, especially for a special occasion. It's a little pricey but the view can't be beat (http://blockislandsairline.com/index.php/block-island-flights/).

I don’t think they have either (although they do have a good selection of tools and equipment for any redditors working on DIY projects at home)! If the board and clock are pricey I can contribute or pay my share during the first meeting.
Saturdays work best for me. I’m preparing for my next actuarial exam in April, and need to be posting up in that library as much as possible.
Lots of restaurants and bars nearby for people itching to socialize too.

There's way more than just PPP open in the winter. Eli's & Kimberly's and others too.

100%! do you know if the library has boards and clocks? I have just been playing online for the past however long and don’t even have a board or clock but I can get one lol It’d be cool to set something up. We can get a good group, it’d be fun.
I’d be able to start sometime this month, I’ll order a board and clock.

Block Island doesn’t have a ton of restaurants to begin with so I’d figure out which ones are open before you go. Nantucket/Martha’s Vineyard would have more options (ie restaurants, lodging and things like the whaling museum)….it just depends on what you’re looking for/to do

Id say 100% / ferry will be cold but it'll be quiet and beautiful. Mohegan bluffs beach is a must too - your options for food and drink will be limited though

For real - It’s almost like putting a grocery store in a walkable area reduces car traffic to it 🤷

I would love to meet up weekly for chess. If we don’t find any options I’m interested enough to make our own weekly group. The providence public library should be a good location, though I’m also fine with bars or lounges like Jake & Johnnys on Fed Hill.

Campus Fine Wines might not sell your bud lite 6 pack for $2 but they do sell AMAZING wine for the best prices probably anywhere across the states for that matter. take your personal vendetta elsewhere
