The new company will be an electricity supplier only; they'll still use RIE for delivery. You can switch back to RIE supply at any point. Hopefully this is not a scam like those rando door-to-door companies that try to sign you up with low teaser rates only to jack them up after a few months.

I think it still is. The letter I received has Spring/Summer rate for RI Energy and the new PVD one is still (nominally) lower.

yeah the political donations angle is kinda dumb when PPL and National Grid do the same thing.

You don’t need a permit to replace anything inside of a home that doesn’t require electrical work; usually, or as long as it doesn’t require affecting the structural aspect of the home.
You can gut an entire second floor and not need to pull a permit as long as you aren’t changing anything that effects weight bearing walls pretty much.

Ah, Plant City, where they pretend to give a shit about their community.

It’s community choice aggregation by the City, the company is there because they provided the lowest bid, and they can be replaced when their contract is up. I’m sure it won’t surprise you, but PPL, who owns RI Energy, also financially supports Republicans. GoLocal wants a scandal because it’s GoLocal, but the City follows an RFP and bidding process that’s not about how a company donates, it’s about whether that company is fit for purpose in their proposal (often that means: the cheapest).
Bottom line: utility companies going to utility company. The difference here is that the goal is to shift us to renewables without wrecking our bank accounts, and ultimately to provide a cheaper greener service as more renewables come on line. My understanding is that they do that by negotiating energy prices as a collection of municipalities, rather than us as individual ratepayers being stuck with the whims of RI Energy and the PUC.
So you can either switch to the cheaper, greener option, or you can opt out.

Great argument, since everybody does it, let’s ignore the one where things got so bad that the labor secretary sued them on behalf of 128 employees, and they had to settle for $775k.
Let’s just ignore that, and recommend that shithole to people from outside the state as a shining example of “great restaurants you should visit while in Providence”. Because everybody does it, right?

Good point – didn't realize they were comparing completely different times of year. I'll have to do a little more digging. Ugh, was hoping this would actually be a consumer-friendly option.

Apples and oranges. The projected rate is the spring / summer rate. You’re still paying winter rates. The projected spring / summer rate by Next Era is more than last years RI Energy spring / summer rate, but less than the projected Spring / Summer rate from RIE. Until rates are filed and final no way to be sure.

I think the projected rates for April through RI energy are down about $0.07/Kwh

Yeah….. but doesn’t basically every f*ing corporation do the same these days? This isn’t as compelling as headline claims (go local usual grain of salt.). So the company donates to GOP / as did most major airlines etc / any industry that wants to skirt regulations or supervision. That’s it? It’s more meta GOP ties than desantis specifically.

That depends. Many companies "contribute to the GOP" because they contribute to both the Dems and the GOP. This is not definitive b/c it's from about 10 seconds of work on my part, but my first search result showed "National Grid USA" giving more to the Dems since 2010. Almost always at least 50% more, often many times more. Take a look and notice 2022:
