Love the Botanical Garden. especially when the RI weather is dreary. It’s like a strol in the tropics

In case you need a reminder of how vile of a human being HP Lovecraft was, here’s an eight line poem by him you should read. It’s shameful that Providence celebrates this horrible person for tourist dollars.

My wife was a regular volunteer for the book store and helped with the conventions. I can firsthand say Its a wonderful festival for the arts ran by great people. I will be donating and I encourage everyone to do the same.

I can't decide what's stupider: that slogan, or the fact that a store owned by a suburbanite who hasn't lived in Providence for decades is the one pushing it.
If their customer base was limited only to people living in the city, they'd be out of business in a year tops.

Totally agree! I didn't include Tilted Barn since it's about 30 minutes drive from Providence. But it's for sure one of my favorite RI breweries.

The MBTA and RIPTA seem to be considering having cross-functional fares with Amtrak. So you could use your MBTA pass to ride the Amtrak which is great because it means that Amtrak would act as an express train between Boston and Providence, while the MBTA can focus on frequent local service. I guess a downside is that there might be days where a lot of people will have to stand on Amtrak trains unless they somehow figure out a system with the seating.

This is a great list! If willing to make a bit of a trip, Tilted Barn is excellent as well.

Maybe 10 Rocks-they do brunch and it's a pretty big space.

Ellie's does catering and would be great for this kind of meal. Maybe one of the hotels like the Providence Marriott downtown. Maybe one of the T's locations? It's tough-most places I can think of just don't have space for a party of that size.

I don't understand this mindset. Tourism is a billion dollar industry in RI. I want their money.

You could buy a t-shirt or artwork from a like minded local artist. Check them out Milk Can Industries here
https://milkcanindustries.com/products/providence-weird-since-1636
Also, there's a "movement" to Keep PVD Secret, which I support, too. You can pick up merch at Frog and Toad. I got a nice cocktail glass with the logo.
https://www.frogandtoadstore.com/keep-pvd-secret-t-shirt.html
Also, if you like Frog and Toad, look for their Tuesday, Online only sales. You order online and pick up in store.
And above all, don't tell the tourists. Send them to Gregg's or the mall or something. I avoid touristy place like the plague. Even before we had a plague (pandemic). 😎

That’s exactly what he’s saying. “This would open up a lot of job possibilities in Boston [to people who live further away].”

I would often go to Tea in Sahara. Great vibe, dimly lit, you look slightly sophisticated and chicks dig tea

Long Live is by far the best. Proclamation has been getting progressively worse. Tilted Barn is good, but nothing is great. Pivotal is solid, and there is the coffee place and "distillery" craft cocktail place right there so its a good mixed group place. Rejects is hit or miss, but they get some good "hits". Buttonwoods / Origin are decent. Some good stuff, some underwhelming, Buttonwoods have become quite up and down. The Pawtucket breweries are across the board underwhelming. Twelve Guns and Six Pack are passes as well.

I'm not sure that the botanical garden fits the Scurvy Dog vibe.
