Advanced Eyecare Associates is where I go, and I’ve had good experiences with them. Best thing I did this year though was get my script for my glasses from them (through my insurance), then went to the newish Warby Parker on Thayer to get my glasses. Nearly all the frames are $99 including anti-glare lenses!!

As someone who used to think like this until this past year or two. I just wanted to clarify some misconscenptions about places like Lovecraft Arts and sciences.

Places like Lovecrafts arts and sciences, and the Portland Lovecraft film fest, and the historical society in LA aren't really about Lovecraft specifically. They're about weird fiction, like weird tales pulp magazines back in the day.

The most popular (and influential) author from the weird tale's era is by far Lovecraft, so his namesake has become a label for all things weird. His fiction does play it's part because of it's sheer influence on the genre as a whole, but it's really just a small part of what places like Lovecrafts arts and sciences do.

So you are saying they didn't force Far West out (because they moved to New Orleans, not got kicked out) and you infact don't know what you are talking about?

Theres enough issues at room & works you don't have to make things up lol.

The patio? You mean the entire indoor space that they were free to use (and did use)? Or the little outdoor space that they were also allowed to use?

Bummer. Figured it was always too much to ask to have two Greek restaurants a block from each other downtown.

Maybe Paolino should realize his insistence on high rents is destroying downtown. No one wants to see empty storefronts with his logo on them a dozen times walking less than a mile across the city. You’d think a former mayor would understand that.

Lovecraft was certainly racist, xenophobic and mentally ill nobody is celebrating that. But that doesn't mean people of color and marginalized groups can't participate in the field of weird fiction and art. Many black artists have reclaimed, reinterpreted and reimagined Lovecraft's work. The award winning weird fiction author Victor Lavalle and HBO's Emmy Award winning Lovecraft Country are two great examples of this off the top of my head. Events like the Necronomicon help support and spotlight black and queer artists and well as critique Lovecraft's problematic views.

Lincoln Woods has really turned to shit. People just don’t care and litter everywhere. Makes me sick because it truly is a great place when it is clean and people respect it. I don’t know what it is with RI residents and trash in general. People just don’t give a second’s thought to throwing their trash on the ground. Really drives me nuts.

I just finished the book "Atoms and Ashes: A Global History of Nuclear Accidents" by Sergii Plokhy" (published May 17, 2022). Plokhy is an historian at Harvard. The track record for the use, management and safety record of nuclear materials is abysmal.

Wind and solar are five times cheaper right now than nuclear. The nuclear industry never quite calculates the cost for long term storage of its nuclear waste when promoting itself, either, so the cost is undoubtedly even higher than that.

We have stopgap with fossil fuels and longterms solutions available in renewables, especially if we make use of other technologies like tapping deep geo-thermal, tidal etc.

But of course, as you so elegantly point out, people should just 'shut the fuck up' and allow the nuclear industry to poison the earth and foist its con job on future generations .

It's currently about an hour and 15 minutes from Providence to South Station so it's closer to a 30 minute difference, which is big (https://www.mbta.com/schedules/CR-Providence/timetable?schedule_direction[direction_id]=1#direction-filter). In addition to the time savings, Electric Multiple Units are also much quieter and don't belch diesel exhaust into the communities they pass through. They're cheaper to maintain and far lighter than diesel electric locomotives too which puts a lot less stress on the rails and ballast.

All I'm saying is Be Careful What You Wish For. Ask Austin, TX. The people I know who used to love it there have moved. Tourists and hipsters ruined it for a lot of those who made it a special place.

Providence is a special place. I'm not a native. I CHOSE to live here. I own property, pay taxes, pick up trash, connect with my neighbors and communities, I try to volunteer in every one of our 25 neighborhoods, every year. I support local music, local art, local farmers, local artists.
