>You don’t know the outcome

Considering we're talking about a single incident 2 years ago, I kinda do know the outcome. We all do. That's just the nature of linear time. I'm going to need to have more than 1 incident in the last decade in the city before we can start pretending it is even sorta probable.

And, without remotely trying to say, she deserved it or the attack was warranted, I have trouble believing that her version of the build-up where the group was just sitting through multiple light cycles before she politely honked and then was attacked. I've seen plenty of aggressive behavior towards other motorists from the ATV and Dirt Bike crowd but her version of events failed the smell test. Hell, just the idea of them camping at an intersection and refusing to move runs against every one of the hundreds of other times people have seen these groups.

Long-term, unless we're going to heavily restrict or outlaw the sale and posession of these vehicles, coming up with a place or a way for it to be done legally and safely is really going to be the only way the illegal and dangerous use goes down.

There's a ton of roadblocks to getting to something like that happening and nothings foolproof, but I don't think we're going to magically make ATVs disappear without trying to tackle the problem that way.

Like helmets save lives, and all the gear all the time atgatt. Dress for the slide not for the ride. All that stuff that's obvious now that I'm pushing 50 but was never considered or just corny when I was 20. Nobody wore a helmet in the 90s.

OK now that the platitudes are out of the way, part of the problem is that if kids wants to ride there's no place where they can do it. It would help. One less young man riding in the street could be the difference between a life lost and a life lived

Are you sad when a free climber / parkour person falls? The consequences of excessive and willful personal risk doesn’t garner much sympathy imo. I’m sad for the family - I’m sad for the people they’ve now hurt - not sad for them. I’ve seen people on dirt bikes on sidewalks, weaving against traffic and blowing through stops, the fact that they only hurt themselves this time is a miracle.

Well, I too have intimate knowledge of the industry, from basically all sides, spanning multiple decades and states. Almost every new law hurts retailers. It became about retailers when there was the obligatory "evil retailers lining their pockets" comment somewhere on this thread. Brewers have gotten many laws passed in their favor over the past few years. Good for them! I honestly mean that. Who doesn't love a vibrant brewery scene? If they grow their self-distribution side, it won't necessarily hurt retailers but it also won't sell more beer, the brewers will just keep more of the profit. At least the ones who can self-distribute. Those who are able to afford trucks, warehouses, drivers, etc...and then suddenly the playing field is no longer level. And the real question, as always, is what of the slippery slope? Again, it always leads to more losses for the retailers.

You are correct, the nips/bottle deposit bill is very damaging to retailers, as is the grocery/convenience store bill that is currently alive and seems to come up every year now, it's just potentially a different palm to grease each time.

So I guess if the grocery bill (H5415) doesn't pass this year, I'm asking for support in protecting retailers the next time it is on our doorstep. Probably 6 months from now. And to not assume that your neighbors who toil their lives away in dusty liquor stores, working long hours with few days off and fewer vacations, are somehow multimillionaires just slumming it for the fun of it.

Honestly, it's hard to find places that accept dogs at all, let alone a dog that is one of the "restricted breeds."

If you can find a private landlord, they'll likely be more accommodating than the larger property management companies that work with dozens / hundreds of landlords. Anecdotally, I currently rent from a private landlord (she only owns this one building) and the downstairs neighbors have a pit bull. So there are definitely people who will still rent to you, it's just going to be more work to find.

Despite what is being implied by other comments on this thread, I would not recommend lying about your dog on the application. If the landlord / property management company were to find out you might find yourself getting evicted. There aren't a lot of tenant protections in RI so it's better to do things above board.
