Roger Williams Park is a beautiful Olmsted-designed, huge park-I highly recommend for dog-friendly Providence visit. I would probably stop at Cafeteria Frias, near there, and get lunch to eat in the park. They have good sandwiches, pastelitos, juice, smoothies. There are a bunch of places on Broad street, which runs along the east side of the park where you can get dominican food to take out.

Yes, I am an ignorant fuck and I also have a younger cousin who is one of those kids riding around on ATVs in the city. He and his friends would tell you, Oh Enlightened One, that if you built them a state of the art facility they would use it a few times and still continue to ride on the street because that's where the excitement is.

There are plenty of people in this discussion who have gone considerably beyond 'apathy' into being pretty damn ghoulish. Which is what the comment that you replied to pointed out.

If you're not one of them, then no one here is talking about you, beyond the fact that you apparently felt the need to pop up and defend them.

And that’s where you need to have clear breaks in the conversation because the logic line you presented makes it sound like you wanted to shoot kids on ATVs because the police *weren’t doing enough.

Putting some blame on GoLocalProv though because the way they structured that article immediately leads people into this line of thinking. (And why they’re mainly considered a muckraking shill of a newspaper)

A bunch of the quick little snippets were of police or the mayor saying they won’t do anything about ATV gangs. Which is not true.

Police are instructed not to chase them through the city because there is a much higher risk of damage, injury and death (to the police, gang member or especially bystanders) when it comes to a full sized police cruiser vs a smaller let nimbler ATV or a Bike. Police have to work to apprehend them in other ways.

It’s not a good answer but it’s all they’ve got atm.

Which is why it sounds insane when the logic line jumps from ATV riders to firearms in self defense. Should a woman be able to shoot in self defense when under physical assault? Yea, I would concede on that. Is that an equivalency I would bring into a discussion on reckless riding? No.

Moniker Brewery: lots of outdoor space to sit and bring your pup. Sometimes there’s a pop up food truck there or grab some take out from Pizza J, The Sandwich Hut, or Yi Noodle Bar all within walking distance and eat it there. Grab a tricycle ice cream sandwich across the street too. For parks I’d add India Point/The River Walk pedestrian bridge, Prospect Park is great view of the city at sunset and great spot to bring take out to eat there.

Have you seen the way they ride? Have you interacted with them? Have you seen the way they interact with other drivers? Because saying we need care and to teach them to be safe is fucking naive. Do you think they don't know it's dangerous? Do you think they care? The people that do this shit are arrogant and selfish.

Tell you what, when you have an interaction with these fucks while you're out driving your kids home and they start passing you on both sides of your car, almost crashing into the back of it because they're doing a wheelie and can't see you stopped at the stop sign, revving their engines, then one of them tries taking your mirror off and screams obscenities into your window because he thinks you almost hit his friend, scaring the shit out of your children, then come back and talk to me about caring.

Reminds me of a story...Back in the 90's, we were driving around Worcester on a Saturday morning and we noticed an SUV parked near our house (near Elm Park). Both passengers had apparently been effing, face to face, in the driver's seat when they (both) passed out with their faces pressed against the driver's side window. It looked like something out of a nightmare.
