Agreed and it isn't even about students cramming into small spaces. I live with 5 other students in a two family and we each have large bedrooms and a huge living room but if the ordinance passes only 3 of us could live in the large apartment. it would be way too much space for 3 people and the rent would be crazy split between 3 instead of 6

Narragansett passed that law, but it was struck down by superior court. I believe it was just because they didn’t go the correct route for it to become an ordinance.

“SOUTH KINGSTOWN — A Superior Court judge has once again struck down a Narragansett town ordinance limiting rentals to three students, dealing yet another blow to the town’s controversial efforts to control the rental housing market.”

Um you realize they don’t just point at land and poof a building appears? They have to buy land, pay to develop it, build, maintain, etc.

JWU’s economic impact is quite strong. They are tax exempt as a university just as any university across the country is along with all churches, non-profits, etc.

I love when people villainize Rhode Island’s schools though.

There was an article I think in NY Times about transitioning commercial to residential and how it’s just a disaster.

The Arcade is an interesting example - do people actually live in those? I’ve seen them for sale but they are ridiculously tiny. And not a great example of keeping a building afloat haha

I know it’s not “close”, but this is RI! My favorite pizza, not strip, will always be Antonio’s in Cumberland! Their crust is second to none, and since they added a vegan cheese option, I get to feel like a kid again haha
