Too tall I only like triple decker multi families!! Plus it’s so ugly, why doesn’t it look like it was designed in 1926. The birds are gonna fly into it! We need housing projects, maybe a couple of high rises where everyone can stay for free! Not this elitist housing that will be gobbled up by wealthy Russian oligarchs and Saudi princes. And they wanna build it in providence? Not on my watch. The last construction project I supported was completed in 1929. Build it in Worcester!

Seriously. It’s a breeze. I actually think most people drive pretty slow.

While I think a 2 hours each way daily commute is absolutely unmanageable, once or twice a week seems like a pretty good compromise. You could probably trade some money for time and drive to Westwood to get more frequent and timely service.

I think for what you describe, wayland square would fit. I wouldn't live there, but definitely walkable, peaceful, plenty of cafes and shops.

Providence is essentially two hills, on either side of a river. On one side is Federal Hill, Patriarca’s domain. The other bank is the east side. It’s where Brown University is, where the doctors and lawyers and professionals live. Between these two hills is City Hall.
If money is no object, move to 33 Power st

Moved to Federal Hill recently and have really liked it, very walkable and lots of good food, coffee shops etc. Also only 15-20min walk to downtown.
I will say Fox Point also has many of those same qualities in my experience (walkable, close to downtown, good food).

not exactly a full bar, but Industrious Spirit Co is a distillery on Sims Ave with lots of outdoor patio space. fire pits and seating areas with heat poles, so you can hang outside pretty much year round. they make bourbon, vodka, gin, and some specialty spirits

I'm convinced that some driver's ed programs in the state are secretly teaching that left turns have the right of way at an intersection over people going straight. I've had people honk at me - they genuinely seem to believe they are in the right.

I see a lot of people talk about how bad traffic and drivers are here, but I don’t really see it. It’s much worse in other places I’ve lived. Or maybe I just don’t notice because i’m the shitty driver.

I commuted from Cumberland to Post Office square for a year before I cracked and took a job in Providence. It was a good two hours each way, door to door, which was a half-time job on top of my job.
Your life isn't worth this on the regular, unless the benefits are good enough that you just suck it up and tell yourself it's a week's worth of commute rolled into one day.
Honestly, do the lists of arguments for and against: this is a math problem. :7)

All of them are safe if you aren’t doing anything stupid.
That being said, I find Federal Hill to be a little more rough around the edges/lack of curb appeal. You get this in a lot of PVD…I think some of it is because street parking overnight wasn’t allowed until recently so people would pave wherever they could create a parking space.
That being said, I do like the Fox Point area as you can walk downtown, Collrge Hill, you have the park along the water, and can walk to Wayland easily as well. Depending where you’re moving from that is - some people think a 10 minute walk to go somewhere is crazy! Ha It’s also super convenient to hop on the interstate.
Just note that finding housing for “working professionals” isn’t as easy as you may expect. There’s a lot of grad students living in the area given proximity to Brown and other schools. There’s not a lot of undergrads but there are some (undergrads typically live very close to campus, grad students can venture to Wayland, Hope Village, Fox Point). It’s pretty common in PVD to have multi family homes- so 2 or 3 units in a house. Be mindful of who lives in the unit (this goes for any neighborhood).
