You said you would be taking the commuter rail everyday, so I assume this wouldn't be a remote position. You really shouldn't underestimate the cost and time that goes into a commute from PVD to BOS, especially if it's downtown. I did a commute from just south of PVD to Jamaica Plain (south of Boston) for around three years, and you sacrifice a lot of time and flexibility to make that work. I chose to drive and it was 1-1.5h each way depending on traffic. I worked with people who did the commuter rail and it was expensive and they had to really adhere to the train schedules. You mentioned kids too which is another factor since you're not going to be able to do quick doctors appointments, let alone unexpected things for them. Providence is great, but commuting to Boston is not something to take lightly.

Not a great coffee shop: sterile interior, mediocre coffee. Nothing interesting about it other than being independent. So… that’s fine. Thayer is long overdue for a great coffee shop. It’s insane that the heart of a great university has such poor options. Best one is ceremony which is pretty niche.

Elmhurst is a neighborhood in Providence. I wouldn't walk from Elmhurst.

No they haven't. It's literally against the law in RI for a bar to have a drink special type of happy hour.

Providence is pretty nice, but very small, so you're never that far away from the station. I usually Uber for the convenience, but you can certainly drive/bus/bike/walk there pretty easily. For figuring out where to live in RI, it's more about what kind of neighborhood you want, and mainly which colleges you want to be close to (they're everywhere). I learned that the hard way when I lived next to PC.

Depending on where you live in Providence, you could just walk, and take a bus home.
I live in Mount Pleasant/Elmhurst, but see people taking the 57 bus to and from the train station.

Providence is great! And luckily it's fairly small, you'll never be far away from the train station it's in a good location. Some people do bus a lot of people bike and a lot of people simply just walk to it. There is parking but if you can avoid paying a monthly fee for that, you'd be better off. But there are lots around the train station as well as right underneath it so there is plenty of parking

Yeah it seemed pretty nonsensical to me, we were in the area running errands, there was a big line of cars, I got out and partner drove off to go shop while I waited in what I presumed to be another line of standing customers after the cars parked. They wouldn't even let me in that line. Seemed like bullshit so I was pretty rude to the guy. Anyway walked over to Zahara and liked what I got for the price / the service was good so I was happy. If I am buying up that way I will go to Zahara when I am and hopefully a good dispensary opens closer by in South County sometime.

Fall River location isn't so bad either - just slow. But when I am heading to Western MA I make sure to stop in Uxbridge.

Best time to go to Nova is first thing in the morning, if you can.
I also don't get the problem with walk ups. I get they don't want people parking on the streets but if someone wants to walk, bike, or needs to get a ride there they should be able to do so.

Yeah I 100% agree. I’ve tried tons of them and none of them really scratch the itch, even Apsara, which I know is sacrilegious to say around here. I’ve just resolved that I’m probably not getting good Chinese that often around here. Though I’ve had the most luck with Express Panda, they also have days where they’re just off their game. I can’t recall Chinese ever being this hit or miss in other places I’ve lived/spent long periods of time/visit often. It’s gotten to the point where I‘ve just stopped trying new places because I’m tired of paying for such mediocre food.

I haven't yet been able to find a Chinese takeout restaurant that I'd ever go back to in the east bay. That said, I used to hit up China Star in Providence frequently in my college days.

“Best food you’ve ever tasted”
Not gonna lie, the Chinese food in RI is the most mid Chinese I’ve had across the country. Obviously I’m talking about “American Chinese.” Tough chicken, rarely tender, pieces cut way too big so the breading/sauce:chicken ratio is all wrong, sauce tastes like ketchup + soy sauce, fried rice that tastes like nothing in particular but is still somehow bad, lo mein tastes like it was cooked fired with motor oil, etc. Not sure what’s up but I always kind thought Chinese food was a solid bet no matter where you went. I’d rather have Panda Express than any of the Chinese food around here.
EDIT: RI lifers mad
