I’m simply saying there’s no need to call out why something should or shouldn’t be in a neighborhood. If a business opens in an area and can thrive (and the demographics point to a Jewish bakery doing well there), then good for them. If that b&w market was thriving, it probably would still be there.

Not every business relies on populations within 5 blocks to be its customers. It could be there’s actually vacant spaces to rent (which there aren’t many in, say, Hope Village).

Just labeling new business as gentrifiers and progressives contradicting themselves isn’t a helpful start to any conversation…..

Dude everyone's going to suggest the same places, regardless if it were reddit or facebook or twitter. "Go check out the mall" is a pretty harmless, pretty universal communique, regardless of the platform with which it's provided.

Try other supermarkets, it beats the hell out of slaving in a restaurant and I think those are your options as a teenager also I believe shaws, stop and shop and market basket are union jobs and that’s always a good look, good luck doggie

Can probably try all the fast food places you see. Definitely not fun jobs, but it is at least a way to build a work ethic and get a resume started.

If dealing with people (customers) fills you with existential dread, you can apply for a dish washing position at a few restaurants.

Reddit can be a good resource for advice/potential opportunities. Don't shoot the kid down just because your Reddit resume was rejected.

When you say pool, you talking billiards? I'm a snooker player myself, but no one in Providence, or all of Rhode Island has it. Bo's Billiards in Warwick is a nice place. Bowling allies are a good meet up place, if you're into it. I'm a duckpin bowler. Used to frequent Mac's Bowlaway in West Warwick. If you're a true night owl, try Haven Brothers by City Hall in Providence. You'll meet with very interesting people. The food is excellent, too. Highly recommend. 👍🏻😎

Class and race are tied together. This is how gentrification works. Businesses open without racist intentions but there are racial implications. The way our economy works, property values based on your neighbors value etc, when a neighborhood “improves” it becomes unlivable for people who can’t afford it and that tends to be a certain ethnicity being forced to relocate. From what I am told, Benefit street used to be a largely black neighborhood as well
