There are good bagels but no excellent bagels.

Providence bagel is my favorite but they are too damn big. I guess because they profit most from lunch-sized sandwiches. Too bad the sandwich fillings are mediocre. Coffee is good though.

I’d probably go with Providence Bagel or Rebelle. The quality at Providence Bagel is a bit inconsistent imo, and Rebelle is always going through some sort of change (definitely check their website on store hours, you may need to order online a day or two ahead). I’m on Rebelle’s mailing list and their instructions on how/when to order and the store hours are never less than 4-5 paragraphs long, so I just don’t bother.

PVD Bagels has bigger/softer bagels. Rebelle’s are smaller/chewier. Both have good homemade spread options. Someone else here mentioned Such a Bagel in Smithfield, I grew up there and loved that place. Haven’t been in years but it’s still alive and kicking.

The lobby at South Street Landing

I used to live around the armory. My car and my friends cars were broken into pretty regularly. Someone broke the lock to the shed attached to the house I was living at and stole a snow blower. I was sitting on my stoop at night when a guy walked passed, then 2 other guys came up behind him and mugged him.

Be vigilant. Get cameras if it makes you feel more secure. Be mindful of your surroundings.
