There’s a few local ones you can probably get promotional deals (ie set up direct deposit and we will give you $300). You can just look online for those….

If all you need is a checking account there’s nothing you’re gonna find/learn by going in person than looking online.

Online banks are good for high balances as the interest rates will be better for savings accounts vs brick n mortar.

The taxes on my home actually went down last year. I am not rich but I pay my mortgage and taxes easily without having to lie or cheat the system. If you want to own property as way of a money making, you have to pay higher property taxes. That’s just how things work.

What kind of housing are you looking for? For that budget you could get a nice one-bedroom on the East Side, parts of which are very walkable to downtown. The rental housing stock in PVD is mostly 2- and 3-family homes. There was a recent post similar to this one; I'd search the sub if you haven't already.

We had to show proof that we had vehicles registered to the property we have the homestead act with. Registration requires proof of address which links everything.

When some people tend to stay loyal to news outlets and only consume their news stories it can be detrimental to their well being in a way if it's all negative.

I'm not saying there has to be feel good stories about puppies being saved from a villain, but there are plenty of great things to report about in the community that are often overlooked.

I for one would rather read about why our community is successful and thriving!

Thanks for the answer. OP eventually gave me an answer that was similar

I will say though, there is definitely an ethical conundrum of what the line is between reporting the news and "stoking fear". On the other end of that spectrum is pretending that everything is all good when there is rising crime. I'd like to think there is a middle ground between fear mongering and white washing

They engage in fear mongering journalism is the best way to put it. They're not really reporting news that helps anyone in particular but rather tells stories that only stoke people's fear. Nothing productive or useful to the general community.

It's okay to tell the news about something bad but the way they write pushes the narrative past actual journalism/news and goes down the "you should be scared of your community" path.

Listen, most people here post GoLocalProv because sometimes they are the only sources of news for a particular subject. Nobody thinks GoLocal is the NYT or anything. Chill out with the calls to ban. If anything, we should be encouraging different news sources to stimulate actual dissemination of news, to increase media literacy across the board. GoLocal is definitely trash but quite often they post useful information that we otherwise wouldn’t know about.
