that sounds wise. I would base the decision on your own needs in general though... it's quite unlikely to have have a house in the MD/Fan broken into while occupied (though not impossible as you obviously know!)

There was a stretch where VCU girls apartments were invaded in the eastern fan though. My wife feels more comfortable with a gun in the house, I don't really care either way, but I like shooting skeet so I've had a shotgun around for a fair bit of my life. I think an alarm and mace would be fine. My perspective is influenced by the fact I'm a rather large man who is used to working with deadly things and in bad areas, so not a usual target

If you do have a gun in the house you should absolutely go to the range and shoot it and get comfortable with it. Having one without experience is not a good idea

I do think Cameras are a great idea, and alarms are a good one too. Simplisafe is easy to install and fairly priced

Glad to see the indoor courts will get used when the team isn’t using them. Pretty insane we’re the only city our size in the country without one, the home of Arthur Ashe. If i’m a student i’m pissed about them athletic fees though, and I say this as a former student athlete and huge sports fan. The expenses of D1 sports have increased exponentially over the years and most sports don’t generate revenue at the division I level and would be non operational without these fees subsidizing them. The days of VCU, like many things in this city, being affordable are becoming distant memories. It’s insanity that schools charter flights to places like Charlotte or Philly for a basketball game when a bus would get them back in a day, all while charging these fees to students.

I mean it'll be cold so do the standard checks on your car before you leave, but as far as conditions go the roads, especially 95, should be totally fine. I wouldn't expect much traffic on Christmas day but 95N beyond Fredericksburg is basically Russian roulette.

My father in law was born and raised in New England and loves talking about how people "down here" don't know how to drive in the snow (despite having lived here for over 30 years now, guess what bro you are "people down here") so it was a really special day last winter when I got to pull him out of a ditch
