As far as I’m aware the cold weather shelters from Commonwealth Catholic Charities and on hill street are open and separate from this daytime warning shelter. I would call 211 if there are specific shelter questions contact the Homeless Connection Line: (804) 972-0813
Just want to share resources but not add to any confusion!

Related question: I really like talk radio that discusses local politics. Back in NY I would listen to the Brian Lehrer show, but I haven't found anything comparable for Richmond. Does anyone have suggestions?

He is the absolute best person to write about this subject. Few people know more about it than he does.

Thanks for the input! You’re the second person that has mentioned Simplisafe, so I’ll have to look into it.
As far as a firearm goes, if we do end up getting one I will definitely take all the classes I need to be sure I am comfortable with it. I’m glad that screaming at him to get out was all I needed this time. He clearly didn’t think anyone was home.

I used to run a park group, and served in a volunteer advisory capacity with Enrichmond (I moved and resigned 6 years ago).
I got to know the staff quite well and will say that I seriously doubt that their collapse was due to anything other than a bad accounting system and being in over their heads.
I know at one point they were pushed by the city to buy some islands in the James, with no advance notice. And, they were blamed for the 17th street farmers market fiasco but were never given any real input into how that project ran. As for the Apple cider Grove in chimborozo, the neighbor didn't want it, the donor didn't fund it, and it would have been illegal for them to plant a Grove of trees reserved for their business use in a city park.
As the article suggests, I think the city is equally to blame in this fiasco and I truly hope they step in and make the partner groups whole again.

As someone who lives in one of those “select” neighborhoods, I wish there were more cameras. Clearly we need all we can to fight crime.

No wait might be a little tough with all the shopping insanity. Maybe one of the Ramen places, or like Pho SO #1, tonight would be the perfect night for it.
