I worked at Peter Changs for 4 years and worked a 12 hour double shift every Christmas. You don't need to lecture me. If you have loved ones to celebrate with, it sucks to be forced or pressured to work on Christmas.

In my case, I had no one to in Richmond to celebrate with and I really didn't to drive hundreds of miles to have an awkward Christmas with my very emotionally distant family. The work was exhausting but by the end of the day we were punch-drunk, drunk-drunk, and had earned a week's pay in a single day.

Also it's depressing to have no one to celebrate with and nowhere to go on Christmas. I'm glad there are some places people can go and be around others instead of having no choice but sitting alone in an empty home.

Grew up in New England and quite literally never thought of turning our water off. My family never did, and friends didn’t either, it wasn’t even a discussion. When i first moved to VA I was very confused about why every landlord I had was incredibly insistent about us doing it all the time. Eventually chatted with a neighbor who told me that since the houses down here aren’t built for the cold in the same way, and a single cold day can do you in. Now I’m way too paranoid about it 🤣

Just got the kids to bed after watching both Christmas episodes of Bluey (a favorite of our house). Wrapping the rest of the presents with my spouse while we watch old SNL skits. Keeping the ol’ thermostat at the recommended 68 degrees.

>When Enrichmond was recognized as the recipient of the funding, his organization sabotaged any attempt of cooperation with Enrichmond.

This kerfuffle wasn't without results. It gained a lot of media attention and led to the city suspending all funding to enrichmond for all of their cemetery programs, not just the one with the drama and dispute. I don't remember reading that it was ever resumed, but that's not the kind of thing that makes the news, or that I would look for. I just remember thinking that was probably the end of the foundation. It also happened around the time that human remains were found (somewhere they shouldn't have been?).

If that’s the case everyone should just be entitled to c number of paid holidays that they get to choose at the beginning of each year. There are so many religions that have holidays as important to them s Christmas that aren’t acknowledged by American society. Give everyone the option to take their own holidays, or their birthdays, or the anniversary of the opening of the Wawa at 288 and Broad, etc.
