What would be really awesome would be rebuilding the bridge that apparently used to exist on Marshall Street and making it for pedestrians and bikes only. Seems like a perfect solution, but it looks like that path has been obstructed by a building. Maybe that could still work out as a simple pedestrian bridge for people going to and from the MCV campus though, which does seem to be the origin of most of the foot traffic.

To be clear, "which side" is a choice between "I think people deserve to be treated with respect" vs. "I'm a bigot". This is a "I like pancakes" and "so you hate waffles?" situation.

Why can’t they use the safe place stickers?

The local Hanover Patriots who have spent all last year targeting trans kids realized that some teachers had "Safe Space" stickers and decided to spam the school board with emails. The school board who worked with ADF (big anti-lgbtq legal group) last year responded by removing all of the safe space stickers in the schools.
So bigotry - that's what lead to this.

It's almost like they're selling guns and claiming they've been stolen for this very reason. Nah, that couldn't be it.

The reason that it's not a battle flag is because it's inherently not two-sided. If the sides were, "Nobody can be gay" and "Everybody has to be gay", you would have a valid point. However, that's not the case.

Right now the conflict is one side saying, "Nobody can be gay" but the opposition is just saying "It's okay to be gay and you should expect the same respect the rest of society gets by default".

If you're not gay that's fine. Nobody is excluding straight people from anything. People are just asking to be able to show support to a group that's currently and historically been given a hard time just for existing.

And you can't see around them when they're parked and they always pull up past the stop bar at intersections forcing a no turn on red. I make a point to look for people and bikes. Even on Main and Cary I look the opposite direction to look up the sidewalk before pulling up to block a crossing to turn or cross.

Agreed! After 2020 I was not in the worst place mentally, but clearly being cooped up for a year had done me no favors. I started going for a 15-20 minute walk during lunch every day and the difference in mood was noticeable after just a week or two.

I suppose basic algebra does answer that. I need to go find some hope somewhere.
