Curious that this article describes the reception to this statue in 2003 as “mixed” when I distinctly remember significant protests against a statue of Lincoln that included a plane dragging a flag around the unveiling that if I recall correctly read “Sic Semper Tyrannus”. Or something to that effect anyway.

Probably just pure coincidence Booth shouted Virginia’s motto after assassinating Lincoln and a plane with those words was flying at the unveiling of this statue though.

There aren't going to be any more hidden jewels--it's just too expensive to live in the big cities any more outside maybe Chicago. I used to work for a company with an LA office and a coworker of mine wanted to be a house flipper, when she showed me a granny flat for $1 million my East Coast mind thought it was on the beach... no, it was by a random highway exit.

Not sure why the downvotes here - with a car, it's easy enough to stay in Short Pump and get into downtown within about 20 minutes at any time of the day other than weekday rush hour, and having a car in the city is convenient enough.

Are there more compelling hotels in the city, and will it be a better experience? Sure. But there's often a $200+ dollar a night price difference between what's available in the city, and what's available out in the suburbs. If that's the difference between making the trip work and not, then stay out in the suburbs and come on down.
