I'm up in Boston for the weekend visiting friends and going ice climbing tomorrow.

Today's gunna be checking out a bagel spot I vaguely remember being told is amazing (just saw it on the map and something pinged in my head) and then walking over to their climbing gym. Should be nice.... I just need them to wake up, morning people problems

You should sign up for Panera's Sip Club. $14.99 per month for unlimited drinks. There's always a Panera nearby, and you can choose any drink, not just coffee.

It's a great spot to sit for a couple of hours and work, and I don't feel bad about taking up a spot a locally-owned coffee shop.

That's the deceptive thing about RIC... Nine times out of 10, you're going to whisk right through the security.. but then 10% of the time you show up a half hour before your flight and the line for security is inexplicably long.

TBH if I were writing a book about showing up early at Richmond Airport I would have the character recount a story about how they had been burned and so now they just show up 3 hours early and go to Caribou coffee and people watch.

Sorry, only good experiences here. As a child I met a question writer from Jeopardy! at baggage claim and she took time to talk with us and answer questions about the show. Now I imagine I'll see her and her custom Jeopardy! luggage everytime I go to baggage claim

I miss sleeping in. I don't think I've properly slept in since 2012. I've also been failing to get more than 6-7 hours of sleep for weeks now and it seems like it will catch up with me eventually!

The SO is taking the boy up to grandma's for the night, so I will have the house to myself. It's gonna be risky business up in here! Except not really because I'm old and risk averse.

I too was awoken much too early by puppy. I'm going to the Pet Expo later, but I'm not sure about taking him like I originally planned since it's going to rain. I don't want to deal with wet dog in the husband's car since mine currently has a broken window motor.

As someone who travels a lot, Richmond is actually a nice and clean regional airport. Most people that fly into Richmond are just going to the Richmond area, or maybe Charlottesville.

I haven't flown into Norfolk, but maybe ask some people about that airport, maybe that's shittier so would lend better to the story of it being a bad experience?

Alternatively, the airports in DC are terrible IMO. Parking is expensive, takes forever to get through security, bags take forever. So I might use one of those airports instead of RIC as the location. Washington DC is about 90 minutes to Richmond and Norfolk is about the same so if I can't get a good flight out of Richmond (often when I fly to the west Coast, it's cheaper overall to fly out of one of the DC airports) and they have nonstop flights. 🤷

Good luck on the book, would love to read it when it's completed.

One gripe that could help your story is the time my bag got lost coming back from a trip.

Recently, it feels like all connecting flights into RIC arrive at midnight.

Due to the late arrival time, it was nearly impossible to track down an airline agent to help me with my list baggage.

I had to go upstairs to the departure desks and knock on a door behind the desks.

The 1am frustration was real.

Basically, the RIC airport is a bit of a ghost town after midnight.
