Reply to Richmond school district to rename Binford, Cary, and Ginter Park for $150k. by Charlesinrichmond
We should just rename Richmond. I can’t live in a city named after the capital of the confederacy

I see that in the counties as well. Just because the overall education system is screwed does not mean we should tolerate schools named after confederate soldiers.

How is this a surprise? This exact system used to be called a “trolley” and we had them for decades.

Yeah with a density around 10,000 per square mile a frequent bus would be popular. It's just you gotta have a lot of people and destinations.
I know Richmond copied the Houston bus reformatting when the pulse was proposed. Less bus routes but more frequent was the idea.

Depending on where you live, this area is the boundary between the Monacan (western half) and Powhatan tribes to the east, approximately at the fall line.

I rather the money go towards funding for these schools.

And yet I see my RPS teacher friends having to do fundraisers and drives just to afford necessary supplies for their classrooms.
Money well spent to change the name of schools that 95% of people didn’t even know were confederates

It was on a display between the butcher counter and the cereal aisle with a ton of other baking ingredients. It was low stock where it usually is near the milk.

It's a very "America in 2022" thing to be shocked at the success and viability of public works and infrastructural tools invented over one hundred years ago.
"Imagine this: An automobile with over ten times the capacity of your average sedan. It travels along major thoroughfares in your city, stopping intermittently. Best of all: It's free.
No, this isn't a fantasy. It's called a bus, and it's been a stunning success here in Richmond."
A few years ago, I was visiting one of the Smithsonian art museums in D.C. Big, gorgeous building, carved out of stone and marble. My friend said, "Do you think we're still capable of making something like this today?"
The answer is OF COURSE WE ARE. Of course we're still capable of making highways and libraries and train stations and post offices and town squares and bus lines and subways. It isn't like the secret techniques of early-20th century urban planners have been lost to the sands of history. We just need to re-realize that there's such a thing as a Public Good and devote our politically will to spending money on it.

Reply to Church Hill brewery update? by gbkl74
How many years has a brewery been rumored to be opening in Richmond? Trapezium took forever to open their other outpost in the town of Amherst. If they end up opening in Richmond I’d bet it will take at least a few years.

Just bringing wine tomorrow so no prep. Tradition is we have the celebration at my sisters place. 13 family and a couple of outsiders. Mother of the future great grandchild is finally feeling well enough to attend so mum can see the progress in person.

Sometimes I just need to sit with my dogs for a bit. Or take them out for a walk. It seems to help.
Sending some good thoughts your way.

How do you guys get rid of those green single use propane tanks for camping grills? I don't think I can just dump them in the trash, can I? I haven't yet so now I have a stockpile of like 15 empty canisters.

Taking the day off. My wife just let me know that her sister and her husband will be coming tomorrow. They originally had begged off, citing a desire to "avoid political disagreements". So.
Anyway, today i'm starting bread and making pie. And helping with cleaning, leaves, setting the table, etc. I'll take a walk with the dogs at some point.

I decided last night that I would try my hand at making chocolates for thanksgiving because the best time to take up new hobbies is two days before the holiday. I have zero experience but a can-do attitude and a penchant for perfectionism so literally nothing can go wrong.
