only 15 extra minutes to use the bus is pretty good actually. more frequency and real bus stops would be a huge game changer. that's for every route. our bus stops are practically hidden. most don't even have a sidewalk

The good news is that both BRT and GRTC are actively researching expansion into West Broad and a potential north/south route.
It's also good that Chesterfield is a lot less resistant to public transportation than it was decades ago when it weirded its membership to seemingly block routes in a majority of the county while saying "see, we're participating."

3.25 years. I still miss the weather and how walkable everything was in relation to where I lived, but I don't miss how expensive everything was.

Someone in this sub previously made a prospective metro map that looks pretty good to me

It's a half hour route that takes 45 minutes to get from one end to the other.
It's nothing like Pulse. The combination of fewer stops, real bus stops with seats and covering to protect you from the elements, and more frequent service would be a game changer.

Not surprising. Maybe surprising to Chesterfield County Officials. But not surprising to anyone who lives in or visits the city often. Now the BRT system needs to grow. As does GRTC.

A metro as in a rails-based transit system?

I made a pecan pie last night. I'll make the turkey tomorrow. Husband is making most everything else, except what my parents and his are bringing. I'm not excited but at least it'll be over in under 48 hours.
I'm living on Powhatan, Chickahominy, and Youghtanund land. I'm going to do some reading up, because I'd never heard of that third one. Thanks for the nudge.

People forget the history of the streetcar in Richmond and how it folded in 1904 after anti-segregation protests.
It was a early flashpoint in the Jim Crowization of the state.

Exactly!
Although I'm very against in city light rail in favor of buses that run like a light rail would. So much less expensive for buses to implement and maintain I've heard.

John B Cary owned slaves, fought for slavery, and was an architect of the Lost Cause. No school should be named after someone like that even if they lived like a saint after doing those things.
That would be akin to asking the SPCA to name a facility after Michael Vick. In some venues, there should never be a “but look at what he did after…”

I wonder how much of the estimated cost would not be realized in some other way. You have to hit up the sign shop 3 times, but things like updating the website, changing letterhead, reprinting IDs, etc., are costs likely to be borne through a standard operating year anyway.
$50,000 per school is also not a trivial amount of money but in the end, comes out to less than $2.50 per school per student in RPS. That's a pack of pens.
I think it would have been best to roll this out over 2 or 3 years; there is likely additional cost efficiency to be found by learning what needs to be done on the first pass before going for the next 2.

I've heard that we burned through our marble supply... So large scale marble projects aren't going to be a thing. That being said we can still do big beautiful public works projects!

I love Thanksgiving! Biggest holiday of the year for my family!
Today begins the turkey brine! Getting ready to go do that now. Might prep the stuffing as well.

Just my little family at the beach - we all cook together, my kids have always loved it. Today I will make cinnamon rolls for breakfast and pound cake for dessert. A trip the grocery store I am sure…
Currently in Hilton Head, home originally to the Yemasee and Cusabo Tribes. HHI also has a large Gullah influence.

Momma is sick. Dont have any other family but my 2 kids. This was going to be the first Thanksgiving in a while I didnt spend alone. All I know is that someone out there is worse off than me and I should'nt be complaining.

Imagine you are a black child and you are attending John B Cary Elementary school. At some point, you’re going to learn about google and find out that you are going to a school named in honor of a guy who was an enslaver and one of the architects of the Lost Cause.
Then, off to middle school. Same shit, different location. You’re now attending a school named in honor of James H. Binford, who was a Captain in the Confederate army and served in a division of howitzers which were used to fight to preserve slavery.
$150k isn’t chump change and it could buy a bunch of supplies in the short term. However, renaming the schools sends a clear message that our schools will not honor those who fought to preserve slavery. I think that has much more significant long-term impact on the students, teachers, and families.

My to-do list includes stuffing, deviled eggs, tarte tatin and a chocolate hazelnut galette. Glad to be off through the end of the week and all of next week, I definitely need a long break. Also, living on Powhatan land now but originally from land of the Tutelo in SWVA.
