Yes Mastodon DM's are basically posts with viewers restricted to the sender and recipient. It is in their roadmap to add E2E encryption, but not there yet. More info here: https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2022/11/mastodon-private-and-secure-lets-take-look

Reply to Living in RVA without a car by [deleted]
I live in The Fan and while I do have a car, I could easily get around without it. I normally walk to get groceries, go out for brunch or dinner, etc.

Interesting, we have this in Charlottesville, and I noticed they also just opened up a Torchys Tacos in carytown, which was a newer addition to Charlottesville last year I believe. I feel like both of those places aren’t the best honestly, overpriced for sure but definitely a - try it once or twice’ a year type of place.

Never knew about those two small landscaped areas in front of the Fed until I looked at this photo. Are they community gardens for employees? I don't think you can see them from the street.

I had not considered Virginia Beach. I’ll have to look into that.

I enjoy the very quiet path just across the T pot bridge. I always feel the need to whisper in that area. Does that park area have a name?

Good to know! Dating isn’t a huge priority for me now but I imagine I’ll want to get back into the swing of things at some point.

Thanks! This is really helpful. I love the wineries near Charlottesville but you’re right, you definitely have to drive to them. I’m glad to hear that Richmond is walkable. I miss living somewhere walkable.

As far as brakes go, no difference at all between an electric or conventional bike. Any bike shop can handle your issue.

Reply to comment by Charlesinrichmond in Richmond school district to rename Binford, Cary, and Ginter Park for $150k. by Charlesinrichmond
Your schools failed you. Insult and observation do not mean the same thing. Edit: And you should look up the definition of the word, “literally”. It literally doesn’t mean what you think it does.
I didn’t really expect you to read the linked article, but here’s a passage which almost seems as if it was based on your reactions:
“If you identify as white, acknowledging your white racial identity and its privileges is a crucial step to help end racism. Facing your whiteness is hard and can result in feelings of guilt, sadness, confusion, defensiveness, or fear. Dr. Robin DiAngelo coined the term white fragility to describe these feelings as "a state in which even a minimum amount of racial stress becomes intolerable, triggering a range of defensive moves." Since white people "live in a social environment that insulates them from race-based stress," whites are rarely challenged and have less of a tolerance to race-based stress.
The feelings associated with white fragility often derail conversations about race and serve to support white supremacy. While these feelings are natural human reactions, staying stuck in any of them hurts the process of creating a more equitable society. The defensiveness, guilt, or denial gets in the way of addressing the racism experienced by people of color.“
