As much as I want to support local rescues: I brought my dog home seemingly fine and a day and a half later was at the emergency vet with him with what they diagnosed as pneumonia/kennel cough. My sheets were covered in green spots and he only stood up to go outside to pee. He was sneezing nonstop, lethargic, and he’d just flop when I picked him up. I had to put the visit on a friend’s credit card and couldn’t afford additional testing (chest x-ray) after already spending so much on his adoption fee and then his intake + appointment cost at the ER vet + antibiotics. I reached out to RAL about the cost of the emergency appointment and how sick he was so quickly after his adoption and they brushed me off.

Obviously I should’ve been more prepared emergencies as anyone should with a pet, and thankfully he’s healthy now, but I don’t know where else he could’ve gotten sick and I didn’t realize I’d have to spend close to $1,000 the same weekend I adopted a seemingly healthy dog.

Richmond spca has got to be the best places to adopt from. My bf and I have adopted two cats from them, (one literally 4 days ago) and the process has always been easy and great. They do all the vaccines, neuter and spay all their cats, and provide discount medical care for animals adopted from the shelter. They’re a no kill shelter also, which is always great to support. All around a great organization.

It sounds like you’re meeting people, so that’s good. If you click with someone, are you taking it to the next level by asking them on a friend date? I would suggest some sort of activity you like to do, nothing too serious. So if you were planning to go to a few stores in Carytown Saturday, ask them along. Or if there’s a movie you want to see some afternoon, or go play frisbee in the park. Even better is something you both like to do. Don’t ask to meet for coffee, a drink, or a meal - that can be too serious and real date-like, mainly because those activities are focused on talking.

Have you looked at Joes? The booths there might give you some extra privacy. Or maybe Quirk? Lemaire?

Edit: was thinking of places that don’t get super busy and have more of an open environment. 🤷🏼‍♀️ Stellas grocery is also open til 8 or 9 pretty much every night except Sunday

Yes to Stoney! Let’s get him out of Richmond so we can get a better operational mayor! He’ll be able to do a lot less damage in the House. He might be more effective there than as a mayor, since his background is purely political (no experience doing anything except campaigns, party stuff).
