Reply to comment by neutrino_fire in Looking for local cat/kitten rescues that are not the SPCA by Zuzzbugg
As much as I want to support local rescues: I brought my dog home seemingly fine and a day and a half later was at the emergency vet with him with what they diagnosed as pneumonia/kennel cough. My sheets were covered in green spots and he only stood up to go outside to pee. He was sneezing nonstop, lethargic, and he’d just flop when I picked him up. I had to put the visit on a friend’s credit card and couldn’t afford additional testing (chest x-ray) after already spending so much on his adoption fee and then his intake + appointment cost at the ER vet + antibiotics. I reached out to RAL about the cost of the emergency appointment and how sick he was so quickly after his adoption and they brushed me off.
Obviously I should’ve been more prepared emergencies as anyone should with a pet, and thankfully he’s healthy now, but I don’t know where else he could’ve gotten sick and I didn’t realize I’d have to spend close to $1,000 the same weekend I adopted a seemingly healthy dog.

Reply to Most humane/ethical way to adopt a cat? by Quardener
Richmond spca has got to be the best places to adopt from. My bf and I have adopted two cats from them, (one literally 4 days ago) and the process has always been easy and great. They do all the vaccines, neuter and spay all their cats, and provide discount medical care for animals adopted from the shelter. They’re a no kill shelter also, which is always great to support. All around a great organization.

Noticed it a few days ago. How much do you reckon it costs to rent it out for a good few months so we can put a giant picture of literally anything else up there like the Lowe’s cat or maybe a hammerhead shark

It sounds like you’re meeting people, so that’s good. If you click with someone, are you taking it to the next level by asking them on a friend date? I would suggest some sort of activity you like to do, nothing too serious. So if you were planning to go to a few stores in Carytown Saturday, ask them along. Or if there’s a movie you want to see some afternoon, or go play frisbee in the park. Even better is something you both like to do. Don’t ask to meet for coffee, a drink, or a meal - that can be too serious and real date-like, mainly because those activities are focused on talking.

I don't even see why we bother having a leash law on the books if you can get away with walking an unleashed dog which kills someone's grandma.
Like if that doesn't get you a fine and prosecuted then wtf does?

Stoney has done a fair job as a mayor compared to the previous mayors. Sure there's some mishaps he made, but he doesn't come close the disaster that Jones was.

Please do not go to any of those places to drink coffee and work on your computer.

I've heard it's the most solidly democratic seat in Virginia...

Have you looked at Joes? The booths there might give you some extra privacy. Or maybe Quirk? Lemaire?
Edit: was thinking of places that don’t get super busy and have more of an open environment. 🤷🏼♀️ Stellas grocery is also open til 8 or 9 pretty much every night except Sunday

Also would support Joe Morissey going federal, because the national media would have so much fun with him! He needs a bigger audience!

Yes to Stoney! Let’s get him out of Richmond so we can get a better operational mayor! He’ll be able to do a lot less damage in the House. He might be more effective there than as a mayor, since his background is purely political (no experience doing anything except campaigns, party stuff).

Is there much Republicans could do, though? That district usually votes 60%+ Democrat. Asking seriously, I just moved here 2 years ago and still getting to know local politics.

You must have better luck than me - I kept running into paddle board yoga, log rolling, swim club in the main pool, and then had to go swim in the shallow pool where there aren’t real lanes, so you’re dodging people just hanging out in the pool.
Edit: at the Vcu pool

Love Richardson’s Rescue. They are such a great group and really do a great job with the cats in their care.
