Reply to New study (n = 15,764) shows repeated concussions are linked to worse brain function in later life by unswsydney
I used to have a real problem hitting myself in the head. I don’t do it anymore. I learned about trauma and got good help.

Yeah no, I doubt this is a solution. Treating a toxic problem with a temporary coating of an untested material is such an antipattern. Let's just stop making fabrics from plastic and go back to all natural fibers. I've done it in my household, especially motivated since we're on well and septic.

so this paragraph from the article was confusing:

"In addition, those with greater relationship mindfulness tended to score higher on a measure of empathy, which in turn was associated with a decrease in attachment avoidance. In other words, those who agreed with statements such as “I have conversations with my partner without being really attentive” tended to be more empathetic, and those with heightened empathy were less likely to agree with statements such as “I feel comfortable depending on romantic partners.”
Any ideas what it meant?

I read that a lot of atrocities in the early parts of the war were possibly sparked due to german soldiers eating methamphetamine tablets for a solid week, getting paranoid and losing their brain function due to lack of sleep
Hitler himself was on enough stimulants to foam at the mouth for hours, to give meth flavored speeches that are full of delusions of grandeur

What good is water proof clothing if it poisons the water and everything in it or feeds off it?

Nothing wrong with pointing out the finding is commonsensical.

Wool is the only natural fiber used in cold, wet extremes. Synthetic insulation, wind and waterproofing are beyond dominant in that area.
Alternatives ate needed. PFC free waterproof breathable is out but niche so far.
Tldr. Cotton kills in cold & wet. Synthetics need sustainable fabrics that match synthetic’s qualities.

Yes Mindfulness Meditation is a specific form of practice that comes with a few key steps that separate it from other forms. Step one is drawing awareness to your breath (imagine a kid yelling 'your breathing right now!!!!' in order to become self-conscious of your breath) then step two would be 'observing what arises' which will be thoughts, feelings and sensations.
You will lose awareness of your breath as you get pulled into thoughts, feelings and sensations which then you are tasked with kindly labelling them all 'thinking' and returning awareness back to your breath. In time and with practice you will begin to experience a strengthened ability to maintain awareness but you will also strengthen your ability to come back and lightly disengage from thoughts. And then if you practice often enough, you'll be come familiar with your common thoughts that go through your head and maybe I'm doing so, Invite the opportunity for a novel response as opposed to your habitual response.

This ^^ let’s go back to 100% Cotten and our clothes will last longer. In the past ~15 years in U.K. any decent clothing company was bought and the company moth balled to cut out competition. Now it’s just flimsy clothing that stars to get holes in after 20 washes

Yes, sometimes studies have findings that sound obvious when you condense them down to a headline. There's still value in testing and quantifying things

Sports! At least for me: age 10 - little league baseball, line drive to forehead -> 15 minute LOC. High school football - spear tackled opponent at full speed (was taught and encouraged then!)-> both of us carried off the field, 5 min LOC and likely C-spine compression fracture for me and emergency splenectomy for the other guy. high school ski jumping fall -> 5 minute LOC. skiing face plant on tree age 22-> >= 5 min LOC with basilar skull fracture. Fainted and fell backward onto concrete floor age 25 -> >=15 min LOC and basilar skull fracture producing cerebrospinal fluid leak through nose. Final ski accident age mid 60’s -> brief LOC. Now, at age 70 I’m definitely noticing various memory issues…

Better solution: Don’t make plastic clothing fibers.

"we fixed the problem by causing another problem" is kinda our thing.
Why use sustainable cotton when you can make a synthetic coating to slow down oil based plastics from degrading?
We are not a smart species. This just sounds like the next PFAS in 20 years

So does anything stress-related whatsoever. That doesn't mean it is.

How can they tell it's not the poor mental performance that caused the concussion rather than vice versa?
I would expect statistically people with worse mental capabilities to put themselves at increased risk to get a concussion.
There could be correlation where people associated with traditionally higher mental capabilities choose safer activities and profession in general. Not saying all people do that, but just statistically. Choosing a high risk activity does not mean you are not intelligent by any means.
