I can't enjoy most songs until I've listened to them a couple of times.

I dunno. The moment I hear a fat riff coming in I know I like it just to have it ruined by over the top growls (Opeth 'Blackwater Park', I so much want to love this but the growls man) or high pitched vocals throughout entire thing (entire Enforcer discography so far, I want to love these guys, they have amazing material).

I enjoy a lot of different kinds of music, and am more knowledgeable than a lot of fans of Zappa and well exposed to his music, but I just can't stand him nor his music. That being said, it is kind of funny, because I really enjoy Captain Beefheart's music, who was a friend of Zappa's since highschool, and musically adjacent.
"Usually if I can find one particular song that resonates with me, I'm
more likely to enjoy the rest of their work, even if it's completely
different. "
I can agree with that, being a Faith No More, Mr. Bungle, Fantomas, Tomahawk, and otherwise Mike Patton-related fan. The sounds of those bands against each other, and also within themselves vary quite a bit, yet I thoroughly enjoy them all.

How is it a relief for a child to be diagnosed with a fatal disease that, on average, won’t allow them to live past adolescence? And even then, the quality of life is an absolute tragedy. The brain starts deteriorating before it’s even had a chance to develop causing the entire body to slowly shut down over time because the brain stops sending signals for basic functions like digesting food and the ability to move. I work with parents of an individual with Sanfilippo, who was first misdiagnosed as autistic, and also received the stem cell transplant a few years ago and it sadly had no positive effect. This child just had a birthday and according to their doctors it will almost definitely be their last. When you see the horror of the disease firsthand you realize the diagnosis, early or not, translates directly to early death. No child or family deserves that.

aren't their ancient depictions of what historians think is extinct species of goldenrod for many ancient treatments. Neat!

Will be interesting to see what the active compounds are and what their prevalence in the extracts was. Because if you assumed that they were pure compounds 5 ug/mL is probably somewhere in the 10 uM range, which is not what you’d hope for from a potential hit.

It’s goldenrod, but tall.
Actually, “goldenrod” is apparently a genus, Solidago, while “tall goldenrod” is one of its species (Solidago altissima, appropriately enough). TIL.

Is tall goldenrod different than goldenrod?

Is "post-traumatic growth" a commonly used term? I honestly read that as the growth of post-traumatic symptoms, not personal growth after experiencing a trauma.

Easy to see why Robin Williams took matters into his own hands.

Zappa is the artist that came to my mind when I thought about songs that I initially hated but are now my favorite. Usually if I can find one particular song that resonates with me, I'm more likely to enjoy the rest of their work, even if it's completely different. It's definitely some foot in the door psychology at play.

They didn't even do amyloid PET. There are a long list of disorders that cause neurodegeneration in young adults and don't involve AD pathology.

Her name was Debbie. I never knew her, as she passed when I was very young. Now there is a genetic test for it, but some of my cousins have had it and some haven't. Most already have kids.
