Food won’t be the only problem. If the ocean gets too warm it’s currents will stop and, well, bye bye global climate regulation.

Reply to comment by Gigahert in A study in the US has found, compared to unvaccinated people, protection from the risk of dying from COVID during the six-month omicron wave for folks who had two doses of an mRNA vaccine was 42% for 40- to 59-year-olds; 27% for 60- to 79-year-olds; and 46% for people 80 and older. by Wagamaga
Well…to play devils advocate, the most susceptible went first. Makes sense the most deaths would occur at the beginning with some upticks along the way as the virus mutates.

Wasn't the experience with omicron generally that it lasted a much shorter time. I had it on new years day and it was brutal for a little under 24 hours then the next day was a lot better.
I only took flu medication due to not being near my doctor. Just wanted to sleep it off

Reply to comment by [deleted] in During the mid-Cretaceous approximately 94.5 million years ago the worlds oceans became nearly uninhabitable as rapid degassing of volcanic carbon dioxide altered seawater carbonate chemistry, triggering a global-scale episode of reduced marine oxygen levels known as Oceanic Anoxic Event 2. by avogadros_number
Perhaps something to do with most fossils being land species, a large dropoff in marine species may not be as noticeable overall

Well, fundamental physics is stalling. We know there's stuff we don't know, but we're running out of ideas for how to figure it out.

I refer you to Konstantin Kisin's speech at the Oxford Union.
You're not going to get 3rd and 2nd world nations to stop progress. Are you going to tell the rural Russian or Chinese farmers that they have to keep their hole in the ground instead of building a heated toilet?
I will quote someone most of you will probably "hate" so I won't name him. Humans suck at prevention, but we are MASTERS at adaptation. What will help solve this is to drive, to create, to work, to build and engineer solutions for the earth as a whole. So when those Indians are trying to build out of their squalid living conditions, they can do so in a much more "earth friendly" way than the current 1st world nations did.

It's supposed to be 32° in Los Angeles tomorrow night. Doesn't feel like we're warming up at all.

I definitely mourned the loss of faith and all that came with that. I think that I'm still dealing with the PTSD of being subjected at such a young age.

You can argue that but I dunno it tracks. Religion is still around because humans can't accept their mortality and to outgroup others. There's nothing really about reality in it at all since it's not grounded in anything real... just belief.

> The definition of free sugars includes: all added sugars in any form; all sugars naturally present in fruit and vegetable juices, purées and pastes and similar products in which the structure has been broken down; all sugars in drinks (except for dairy-based drinks); and lactose and galactose added as ingredients. The sugars naturally present in milk and dairy products, fresh and most types of processed fruit and vegetables and in cereal grains, nuts and seeds are excluded from the definition.

When it comes to cognition we need to be really careful because our own experiences are subjective and it's entirely possible that ones memories can reflect things out of order.

It's worth noting that a storm surge that's already 100cm higher will be devastating, not to mention climate change increasing the frequency and severity of storm cycles
