Some seabirds survive typhoons by flying into them. Streaked shearwaters nesting on islands off Japan sometimes head straight toward passing typhoons, where they fly near the eye of the storm for hours at a time. It’s the first time this behavior has been observed in any bird species.

Physical activity before COVID-19 infection is associated with less severe outcomes. In a study of 194,191 adults with COVID-19, those who were consistently inactive were 191% more likely to be hospitalized and 391% more likely to die than those who were consistently active.

COVID vaccines and first boosters provided protection to pregnant women during Omicron surge. Looking at unvaccinated women, you still have an increased death rate, and increased neonatal mortality. If you are vaccinated and boosted, especially with a mRNA vaccine, those levels drop by 81%.

Earth's inner core seems to be slowing its spin according to new research published in Nature Geoscience. The study authors suggest this might be part of an approximately 70-year cycle where the core speeds up and slows down relative to the rest of the planet.
