Definitely an S curve still. Looking back at progress, it has been very, very slow until now. Basically the invention of the transformer changed everything

I don't particulary enjoy living but I am just a link of the chain of 3 billion years so a will to survive has been encoded into my DNA. Nietzsche had an idea of eternal return where one would live their life over and over again and I think it would be the worst nightmare.
Why Am I being downvoted

Looks like there is one copy left in stock. It is really heavy going tho, you need at least uni level education and probably a lot more.
Edit to add, ISBN is: 0-471-57518-6

Hello? If all those jobs go to AGI, how are people supposed to support themselves? You will have a massive shift from taxable income (people working) to companies having additional profits and paying less tax on those profits. Basically, corporations getting richer and government and people getting poorer.
The thing is that UBI is not the answer either. Work generates income but also gives you a sense of purpose and accomplishment. A society paid to sit on an apartment watching tiktok videos will collapse quickly, UBI or no UBI.

Yeah ngl once AI becomes good enough ill probably stick with AI partners. I will keep some of my close friend and family members that I care about but I dont need more than that. I just want a calm peaceful life :)

The philanthropy done by Bill Gates and the likes is mostly about lifting people out of poverty and reduce mortality in 3rd world countries. They fund vaccine research, safer nuclear energy research, eradicate preventable diseases and other things such as developing waterless toilets for where there are none today. All very worthy causes which better the lives of millions of people. What he DOESNT do, is pay people a UBI and its unlikely to happen. Why would we depend on billionaires to do this?
This is a government issue, perhaps even a UN issue, given the global scale.
The thing is that if AGI is not taxed (or some other means to fund UBI), society will semi-collapse. Yeah, the big tech companies will make a ton of money initially but if no one can afford to buy their goods and services, it will lead to a vicious cycle that will ultimately end very bad.
Again, I dont buy the analogies with other major disruptions in our history such as the industrial revolution. This affects (sooner or later) everyone. If Intelligence is the commodity being traded, no one is safe.

Correct, which is why the video shows an example of what a nanofabricator will look like. Nanofabricators in the future, will not look like that in the video.

I have a very detailed scientific book written by Erik K Drexler who goes into exactly how they would work with detailed maths and diagrams together with simulations. You can believe some gummy bear on the internet spewing their uneducated opinion or you could keep an open mind based on this book written by an accomplished man. I know which side I am leaning.

Genuinely, is there any point in continuing to make art when everything artists could ever do will be fundamentally replaceable in a few years? by [deleted]
I get that you don't like it, but you haven't given any reason why development will fail. The technology exists in nature, it's how you were constructed. We've already got nanoscale machines being used in manufacturing, both organic (DNA based) and inorganic. Those machines are importing rapidly.
It is inevitable (excluding a civilisation destroying crisis) because capitalism will drive manufacturing towards atomic assembly as it removes all the costs associated with a supply chain and human labor, a tremendous competitive advantage. That is also the end of capitalism because the cost of production will be close to zero with no material, energy or labor costs.

Could you tell me what technologies changed in the field of chemical engineering from 2003 to 2013 vs what changes occurred between 2013 and 2023? How about in mining? Metallurgy? Shipping? Logistics? Battery tech? Automation? Farming? agriculture? Computational analysis? Food science? Marine biology? Packaging tech? Geology? Construction etc etc.
You only know the tiny tiny tiny little bit that you directly experience every day. When tgat gets disrupted them of course you notice, smart phones and internet apos grab your attention. You do not see all the other stuff that happens in the background to all these other fields because you are not looking and wouldn't understand even if you did.
You also conveniently left out stuff that you should have noticed like the huge advances in space tech (reusable rocket), electric cars, battery tech, renewable tech, cheaper solar and wind and obviously AI which is head and shoulders more important than anything else that has ever been done.
